Among the National Geographic portraits that will be on view at the World Forestry Center is this famous 1984 image of an Afghan girl in a refugee camp in Pakistan. A National Geographic team found the girl again in 2002.

In Focus: National Geographic Greatest Portraits

Here’s looking at you. Most of us are people watchers and this exhibit of 56 color and black-and-white portraits affords the opportunity to gaze at images of mankind taken by some of National Geographic’s most celebrated photographers. Created by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and National Geographic, this show promises to “take visitors around the globe and through the heights and depths of human emotion.”

‘Nine: An Evening of Unconfined Circus’

Pendulum Dance Theatre marks its ninth professional season with its ninth major production, featuring performances by nine artists doing acrobatic choreography, contortion and other high-flying antics. The opening act, “Slumber,” is a dreamlike trip to the circus. The second act revisits some favorite pieces from the past as well as some new work, including “Mary and Annette” in which Suzanne Kenney and guest artist Anna Vigeland perform as marionettes, and professional ice skaters Angela Kim and Louis Torres perform ice dances on roller blades.
