Warped Tour

It’s hard to believe that the Warped Tour is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. The annual mega-tour has become an annual institution – not to mention an excellent and cost-effective way to catch up on the punk-pop-rock-emo scene. This year’s line up features veterans such as NOFX, Bad Religion and Less Than Jake, as well as a litany of up-and-comers such as Scary Kids Scaring Kids and Alexisonfire.

The best folk music is the kind that takes social issues and makes them personal and even intimate. That’s the kind of art that country/folk/pop maven Nanci Griffith has become known for, and it’s in full evidence on her latest album, “The Loving Kind.” The title track is a beautiful homage to the couple whose interracial marriage went all the way to the Supreme Court, and whose love and commitment serve as a beautiful and moving example. In that and on tracks like “Not Innocent Enough,” she scores an emotional bulls-eye straight to the heart of social concerns.
