Portland filmmaker Gus Van Sant has been arrested for DUII.
A Portland police officer pulled over the 54-year-old around 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning near Southwest Sixth Avenue and Burnside Street. The officer observed Van Sant's Porsche SUV, without its lights on, accelerate rapidly when a the traffic light turned green.
Portland Police Sergeant Brian Schmautz said the officer who pulled Van Sant over noticed a strong smell of alcohol. Van Sant was also reportedly slurring his words. He failed several field sobriety tests, was arrested and taken to Central Precinct.
A Breathlyzer test showed Van Sant's blood-alcohol level was 0.19, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08.
Schmautz said Van Sant was cited and released from jail.
He faces a court appearance Jan. 17th.
