TriMet to finish removing bus shelters from Portland Mall

TriMet expects to finish removing bus shelters from its downtown Portland transit mall this week.

Crews started removing them last week. By Wednesday, approximately 40 shelters will have been loaded on trucks and taken to be recycled. Only one will be left in place. The work is part of the Portland Mall Light Rail project. Eventually MAX trains will run on Southwest 5th and 6th Avenues between Union Station and Portland State University.

Work is scheduled to take place each day through Wednesday between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Earlier this month, buses were moved from 5th and 6th Avenues to 3rd and 4th Avenues.

The buses will stay on their new routes through downtown for approximately two years, returning to the renovated mall in spring 2009. New bus stops have been created for all relocated routes.
