Portland’s Exotica International Club for Men must pay a $6,435 fine or face a 39-day suspension of its liquor license under an agreement reached this week with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.
Sanctions announced Friday morning were prompted by liquor law violations that OLCC investigators found at the club, 240 N.E. Columbia Blvd. The business was cited for a history of serious and persistent problems, including 19 incidents in 2006 that involved fights, biting and stabbing; use of firearms, knives and rocks as weapons; injuries to patrons, and drug-related offenses.
The club was hit with a second violation for allowing a juvenile to be in a prohibited area of the business.
Exotica’s liquor license is held by North House enterprises LLC, with Ghassan Samander as the managing member.
In addition to the fine and possible suspension, the state agency imposed four restrictions on the club’s liquor license that include limiting each customer to one drink at a time, verifying the age of minor entertainers before each work shift; having at least four certified security persons on duty from 10 p.m. to closing Thursday through Saturday; and using a metal-detecting wand on all patrons entering from 9 p.m. to closing every night.
The club could lose its liquor license if it violates any of the restrictions.
