The Lake Oswego man accused in the drowning death of Frederick Stephens III will be arraigned Monday in Clackamas County Circuit Court.
Michael David Hessemer, 23, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter. That charge may change after a grand jury meets this week, according to Clackamas County Chief Deputy District Attorney Greg Horner.
An alleged fight between the two men in a hot tub at Mountain Park left Stephens dead early Sunday morning. The fight occurred in the hot tub/pool area of an apartment complex at One Jefferson Parkway.
The two were alone when the fight broke out, according to Capt. Don Forman of the Lake Oswego Police Department. He said earlier in the night, the men were with a group of friends.
The Clackamas County Coroner’s Office determined Monday afternoon that Stephens, 25, had drowned. Police were called to the rec center on a medical call, Forman said. Stephens was dead when police arrived.
Both Hessemer and Stephens were residents of an apartment complex at One Jefferson Parkway. Hessemer and Stephens lived in separate units in the apartment complex, police said.
