It appears that the career of Blazer forward Darius Miles is over.
The Portland Trail Blazers have requested waivers on Miles, General Manager Kevin Pritchard announced Monday, April 14.
Two years ago, Miles suffered a serious right-knee injury, and a doctor jointly appointed by the NBA and the NBA Players Association examined Miles and determined that the damage is severe enough to qualify as a career-ending injury.
“The doctors had actually said…‘if you were my son, I’d never have you pick up a basketball again,'” Pritchard told KPAM 860 early Monday evening. “I’m the kind of GM (that) I wouldn’t want that on my head that he ever had to have knee replacement.”
Miles has missed all of the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons, last appearing in a game for the Trail Blazers on April 15, 2006.
“To his credit, Darius worked hard to come back, but his body just didn’t allow it to happen,” Pritchard said.
The 6-9 forward appeared in 145 games for the Trail Blazers after arriving from Cleveland in exchange for Jeff McInnis and Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje on Jan. 21, 2004. As a Trail Blazer, Miles averaged 12.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
Miles, the third overall pick of the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2000 NBA Draft, played six NBA seasons with Los Angeles, Cleveland and Portland. He appeared in 412 games, with career averages of 10.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
Assuming that Miles does not pass another team’s physical and get picked up by another NBA franchise, the Blazers would be able to take the last two years of his $48 million contract off their salary cap.
Kinda s**ty for him, good for pdx. now they can get a young, healthy player that might actually be able to play.

Who cares about the money? Paul's got lots of it.
Darius? That is a door. That is your A**.
Don't let the first one hit the second on your way back to your home turf.
Buh Bye.

Woohoo, the last of the jailblazers is gone as is the era and last bad decision of the Boob Witless crowd.
They may have to eat that contract they gave him, since no other team could possibly be stupid enough to pick it up.
Its still worth getting rid of that poison pill!

I'm in no way a Miles fan, but I do feel like he handled himself with the utmost dignity and professionalism this season. I hope your new found charater is here to stay and you find success in your next endevour.

We all know the spin here, but this has been the plan all along...fyi I do believe his insurance carrier picks up the rest of the contract, but like another already said, our owner will pick up the tab, probably gladly at this point
Miles had the makings of a superstar. He had unlimited potential and physical gifts few can even dream of...now I know the spin says it is because of his knee the show ends here...However, truth be told he was always mentally never quite right to succeed in this league...
He got the contract and the big money, but he never lived up to his potential...
That cap money will serve us well. We now have a GM who will use it wisely

My two memories of Mo Cheeks were when he helped the young girl with the national anthem lyrics and the outrageous verbal abuse he took from Darius Miles.
I wish Darius well with hope that his exit represents the end of an Era associated problematic players
and "The Jailblazers" reputation.
