The discovery of five mutilated cats near the Portland State University campus has prompted the Oregon Humane Society to offer a $1,000 reward leading to the information about who killed the pets.
The bodies of the mutilated pets were found near the PSU campus in late April and again Thursday, May 29.
“These cats were ruthlessly attacked and killed by someone with utter disregard for the pain they inflicted. It’s difficult to imagine how someone could do this to an animal,” said Dr. Kris Otteman, OHS director of shelter medicine.
Last week, the body of a black and white adult male cat was discovered. An autopsy performed by Otteman confirmed that the wounds were consistent with those inflicted on four kittens whose bodies were found in the same area in late April.
Oregon Humane Society’s law enforcement officers are commissioned by the governor to investigative animal cruelty crimes. They frequently help other cities and counties and respond to more than 900 Portland-area complaints each year. PSU asked society to lead the investigation last week.
Aggravated animal abuse is a felony in Oregon, punishable by up to five years in jail and a $125,000 fine.
“Violent crimes against animals don’t happen in isolation,” said Humane Society Executive Director Sharon Harmon. “They are usually undertaken by someone with a serious mental condition who eventually commits violence against another person.”
The Humane Society has set up a special tip hotline, 503-285-7722 , ext. 412, to leave recorded messages with information about the deaths of the five cats.

The biggest kind of moron ever. And furthermore, if you really insist on changing the subject, a human with a gun shooting another human with a gun, (or a human with a jet launching a missile at a guy in sandals) is not nearly as disturbing as a human torturing a defensless animal.
When I used to live in Corvallis in the 90s, I knew a guy named Howie how supposedly tortured and killed cats, always with some bogus reason. If anyone knows who this guy was or if he's still up to it, or if he now lives in the area where this is taking place, please post it here.
And finally, that hunter who got mauled by the bear, that's classic. What a tool.

Actually, I was just going to say that this is the type of filthy, disgusting violence that Republicans love so deeply. Only, some mentally ill conservative beat me to the bunch and is accusing quote-unquote "liberals" of encouraging human deaths. Cute. Real cute. In the end, though, this type of filthy speech only strengthens the old credo which says that when you want to know what Republicans and conservatives are up to one need only listen to the lies they constantly spread about those they hate. One will find that Republicans very consistently carry out the same crimes they accuse others of. Very transparent, and very treasonous.

This is a globally-occurring phenomenon. Google for 'cat mutilations continue', 'serial pet killer', another mutilated cat','purloined pets','mysterious half cats'. Huge rewards - never any arrests. Happened in Spokane, Bellingham and Oak Harbor WA. Happenend in West Hollywood, Saratoga and Ocean Beach San Diego CA. Happened in Corpus Christi, San Antonio and Austin TX. Hsppened in Toronto ON Canada. Go to Thisislocallondon.com - in story archive 1997 type 'pet killer' hundreds of pets found cut in half .. always the same MO .. never any blood (or very little). Half is generally missing. Very few clues. Never any arrests. First-order high strangess. Stops as mysteriously as it begins. May re-occur after one or two year hiatus. Review Edmonton and Kelowna cat mutilations. Cyber-snoop .. no shortage of similar instances.
