PDC’s Warner gets $19,500 raise

Resolution also spells out severance package for executive director

Bruce Warner of the Portland Development Commission has been given a 12 percent raise that brings his salary to $179,500, among the highest in city government.

Citing the “commendable” job he’s done since taking over as executive director of the Portland Development Commission in 2005, the PDC’s board of directors has given Executive Director Bruce Warner a $19,500 raise — the first raise Warner has received at the PDC.

The 12 percent raise brings Warner’s salary to $179,500 — among the highest salaries in Portland city government.

The new employment contract that the PDC board approved for Warner on Wednesday also includes a provision that was in his prior contract but that may become more important during the next several months. The provision calls for Warner to be paid six months salary and benefits if he is terminated for any reason other than malfeasance before July 2010.

The severance stipulation could become important as leadership of the PDC board could undergo significant changes in the next few months. Outgoing Portland Mayor Tom Potter has asked mayor-elect Sam Adams – currently a city commissioner – to fill the two PDC board of director positions on the five-member board that come open in July.

Those seats are currently held by PDC Chairman Mark Rosenbaum and board member Sal Kadri. Adams could decide to reappoint both, or either, or appoint new members.

Adams’ office has sent out a public e-mail, looking for people to apply for — or nominate people for — a position on the PDC board. Rosenbaum said Friday that he and Adams have talked briefly about whether Rosenbaum is might be reappointed. He said Adams has not indicated he would reappoint him, or not reappoint him, and said he also has not decided whether he will seek reappointment.
