Rick Adams did not know video of wild ride would be released

Bicyclist Jason Rehnberg took a wild ride Sunday evening on the hood of a Ford Escort during a road rage incident in Southeast Portland. Photographer Rick Adams captured the ride on video and has been contacted by national media outlets that want to use the images.

Rick Adams, the professional photographer who shot the now-infamous video of a Portland bicyclist clinging to the hood of a fast-moving car, is surprised — and a little annoyed — by how much exposure his footage is getting.

The video shows Jason Rehnberg hanging onto the windshield wipers of a Ford Escort during a road rage confrontation Sunday evening on Southeast 58th Avenue.

Portland police arrested the driver, James Millican, at 7:11 p.m. and charged him with second-degree attempted assault, driving while under the influence of intoxicants, third-degree criminal mischief and reckless driving.

Adams, who lives on 58th, ran outside of his home with a camera after hearing people arguing in the street. He started filming just as Millican sped towards several people standing in front of his car, forcing Rehnberg to jump on the hood to avoid being hit.

“This is not the whole incident, just what I saw when I stepped outside my door and pulled up my camera,” said Adams. He said the camera was a small Canon that shoots video.

Although Adams admits he voluntarily gave the video to police, did not realize it would be released — or receive such widespread distribution.
