Two Portland men accused of tossing a Molotov cocktail at a family's John McCain campaign sign early Saturday morning were arraigned in Multnomah County Circuit Court Monday afternoon.
Leslie Brockette Leudtke, 23, and Kevin Carl Robinson, 23, were held on at least eight felony charges of making a destructive device and possession of a destructive device. Leudtke also was charged with reckless burning.
They were arrested early Saturday morning, Oct. 11, and charged with burning the 4-by-8-foot sign outside a Southeast Portland home.
Portland Fire and Rescue investigators said the two men made a Molotov cocktail and threw it at the sign in the 7900 block of Southeast 17th Avenue.
The sign, which is bigger than the usual campaign yard signs, is supported by two wooden posts. The fire burned one of the posts, but did little damage to the sign.
Firefighters were called at about 1:43 a.m. to the area and found the burning campaign sign. The fire caused minimal damage.
Fire investigators tracked down the two men and, after extensive interviews, charged them with the felonies.
These violent jerks are exactly why many of us don't display our preference for McCain/Palin. I think whoever the new president is he will inherit the wind. We tossed the Republican majoity two years ago and look what we have, a majority of do nothings who masquerade as democrats including the wonderboy with the very questionable past.

Nasty marxist/anarchist goons don't like the free speech of others. What did they hope to achieve by it? Terrorize people into keeping their opinions concealed?
Chill other people from expressing support for whatever candidate they like that isn't in the goon squads favor?
These young thugs have it in their heads they have to clear the world of wrong-thinkers. Who appointed them arbiter of what other people should think or say?
I guess they have decided free speech is evil because it stands in the way of utopia.

Jeff, the McCain campaign may not be doing real well in Oregon, but why should he spend his limited finances in a place where he doesn't really stand a good chance of winning? Just like Obama isn't wasting his money campaigning strong in Tennessee. McCain isn't really "going down in flames." This election could go either way and could be a landslide either way, depending on factors we don't see, not being professional pundits. McCain is doing really well in spite of strong media support for Obama.

Its very unfortunate that there are poeple out there like Jeffette that would even think to rationalize this as ok behavior. This being a relatively "free" society and there being hundreds/thousands of ways to express your views on it, yet they selected one of the more dangerous and illegal ways of doing it?
What is going to be even more disturbing is the fact that they will most likely get a slap on the wrist for it just because of freedom of speech or the damage was small.

NOT COOL.

So Mike won't be making the protests anymore?
How many more people will turn coward when the time comes to storm the barricades and repress the hatespeakers who simply refuse to get with the program?
It is just that sort of thinking which will allow four to eight more years of unregulated, uncontrolled, destructive capitalist policies through the election of McPalin.
People must be shown that Obama is the way out, the truth being spoken, and the hope for true change.
Remember that Lenin and Che were considered criminals by repressors in their times before being championed as heroes for the people and true, enduring change agents.
Change must come from the streets.
So let the hammerblows for change through Obama be struck in the streets of Portland.

Attacking free speech has been a hallmark of the Obama campaign. He asked the feds to investigate a Chicago talk show host who talked about his association with Bill Ayers and recently in Missouri, he requested law enforcement go after anyone who ran ads he didn't like.
But liberals have a history of trying to shut down anyone who disagrees with them. Look at the unwashed that protest any conservative speaker that comes to Portland in an attempt to shut them up.
If Obama's elected, will he take over the press like Chavez? Bet he'd like to.

You seem to forget that the far right has employed similar tactics to shut up the voices of the left - the KKK, McCarthy, numerous GOP administrations...
A radical is a radical regardless of what side they're on, and they're equally dangerous. Obama is no more a radical than McCain, and these morons that burned the signs speak no more for Obama than the morons speak for McCain that hang effigies of Obama and/or try to link "Osama" to "Obama."
Don't confuse the stupidity of the fringe for the mainstream perspective.
But of course, you don't care about a logical, balanced viewpoint, you and your type will simply jump on any excuse to lambaste Obama. Too bad it won't work.

I live in the Portland area, and despite being a supporter, there is no way I would ever put a McCain sign at my house or a sticker on my car. During the last presidential election, the radical leftist democrats broke windows and vandalized cars with Bush stickers.
It is very sad that our "democracy" has come to this. Those who call themselves liberals are really facists. You have freedom of speech in this city ONLY if you agree with the Democrat cause. Sad. Really sad.

So you're feeling sorry regarding these anarchists/arsonists being charged with 8 felonies... here's a clue. It's not just about burning something made of wood; it's about thugs intimidating Americans from their exercise of Free Speech. The punishment should fit the crime becuse this is an attack on the constitutional rights of everyone: A minimum of ten years in prison just might discourage this insanity.

Another Demo empty-suited economically-illiterate smokeblower in the endless and unending daisy chain in the tradition of McGovern, Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, KKKlinton, Gore and Kerry. Obama has encouraged such actions by telling his bullies to "get in their faces". We have told ours to be civil but if some bully "gets in your face", get him/her out by using whatever means necessary. The Obama camp encourges bullies like these and secretly applaud their thuggish actions while saying such actions are not condoned by our camp. You folks do believe that don't you?

It seems those two punks honed their domestic terror tactics from Obama's bomb throwing 'pal' William Ayers. (actually I regret that Governor Palin used the term "pal" to describe their relationship because its worse than that, Obama and Ayers had a 'meeting-of-the-minds' because they served on boards together to dole out millions for failed left wing causes).
Also, Obama provoked the McCain supporters in Wisconsin and Minnesota to express their anxieties because he did demand that his followers get in the faces of McCain supporters.
I'm sick and tired of the Obama campaign's attempt to drag the USA down the slippery slope of a new dark age of racial McCarthyism by falsely accusing everyone who disagrees with them a "racist."
I'm a registered democrat and work in NYC as a lawyer and I'm voting McCain/Palin.

Wade said he was upset with extremists on both sides. I think obama is the biggest extremist here, proven- he has sat in a racist church for 20 years, the guy who launched his political career, William Aires, not only confessed to being a domestic bomber but in 2001 he wrote that he wished his group had done more. The current economic crisis was caused by GSE's freddy and fannie, the loans were packaged and sold (infected) Wall Street. Franklin Reins ran fannie for six years until 2006 and made 90 million dollars and resigned due to a fraud issue. Franklin Reins is an obama economic adviser!!! I'm afraid this election has become such an emotional issue his supporters don't care how extremist he is.

In other words, both situations are Obama Voter Heaven.

It is really too bad that those of us who do not want to have to endure vandalism can't put a McCain sign up, but we freely allow the Obamamaniacs to express their own, but twisted, allegiances to their candidate (or Messiah?) Liberals are ill. They are bigoted, hateful, arrogant, sanctimonious hypocrites -- and many of them actually know this at least to some degree, and yet they embrace their warped and nauseating behavior as a "justifiable" means to force through their misguided and twisted ideology. That's just sick.
Furthermore, liberals are groveling little brainwashed weak-minded sissies.
Furthermore, liberals are ignorant and self-destructive cowards, afraid to face the Great Wide-open -- it is WELL KNOWN what socialism and totalitarianism will bring -- they are the inverse of liberty and freedom; and still, liberals push for these things.

Sorry, "JG" you need a few history lessons. Most "KKK" memebers have been Democrats, not Republicans. Secondly, a higher percentage of Republicans voted in favor of the Civil Rights Act and Voters Rights Acts, than Democrats.
Thirdly, both the 14th and 15th Amendments were passed to STOP Democrats from denying basic rights to Blacks.
Fourth, it wasn't Republican Governors barring admission to Black students to college. Fifth, it was Republican administrations who ordered in the National Guard to allow entrance to Colleges. Sixth, it was Eisenhower who first tried to pass the civil rights act...twice! Only to be voted down by Democrats.
Get your facts, right, "JG". It's always been Republicans in favor of civil rights, not Democrats!
And Ira Braithwaite, what can be said of someone so entirely ignorant of history. The folks you champion were butchers, plain and simple. Lenin was a mass-murderer, plain and simple. He slaughtered millions! Che was simply an ignorant butcher, plain and simple, and a coward as well. The first time he ever faced a force equal to his own, he turned and ran.

It is amazing the ignorance in America. The KKK was started by the Democrats and the NAACP was started by Republicans Check it out get informed. My point is to show how uninformed the average citizen is and who the people are the really have fought individual rights and freedoms from their inception "The Democrats."
Race baiting is a tool of the Democrats and Obama has mastered the subliminal how to's of race baiting and the black community think he is their savior and al he is doing is using his race to get power to be like Hugo Chavez and the Castro brothers. Wake up America!!

It seems the Obama campaign of Getting in their Face has the younger people engerized to no end. Trying to force the FEC to pull the license of TV and radio Stations that air the NRA ads, trying to shut down the WGN radio interview with authors who disagree with Obama, using Truth Squads in MO to force the police to arrest anyone who says a lie about Obama, goodness, what ever happened to Free Speach!!! The MSM says everything Obama says is true, but, most of it has been proven to be a lie. On Bill Ayers - Obama says he is just a guy in the neighborhood, yet they have an association that is rather close since 1995. Plus the fact that Ayers is working with Hugho Chevaz who hates American. What about his friendship with Emil of Ill. who is now in jail, the Mayor of Detroit who is now disgraced and facing jail. But, Chicago Mayor Daly ssid it right - They are friends -So What? We really do not know too much about this man and he wants to be President. The Democrats refusing to stop GSE Frannie and Freddy is what has led to the economic meltdown with the subprime mortgages and Raines resigning taking $90 million when he should be placed in jail for economic fraud against America, yet, the liberals do not care. Time for the voters to get real and learn to read the facts about Senator Obama. All of his former friends (he throws them under the bus to get elected) are known communist, marxists and socialist. Now throw in ACORN whom he gave $800,000 to get out the vote and in 14 states they are charged with all types of crime and one of the founders took over $1 million of our tax dollars for himself.

Che used to tie his victims up and make their family watch while he killed them with a baseball bat. For a change of pace, he would kill the family, and make the husband watch. Then he would kill the husband. He came from a nice home in Argentina where his parents were doctors. Go figure. Americans espousing his ideals are traitors. He was a criminal and an inept revolutionary. Castro sent him away because he was a nut job.

Meet the new Weather Underground.
The names might as well be Bernardine Dohrn and Bill Ayers.
I won't even put a McCain sign out as there are many black folk and Muslims in my neighborhood with Obama signs and I don't like waking up at 3 A.M. from the loud crash/bang and having to clean up broken glass in the living room or bedroom since the last storm window was busted.
Something the radicals on the left don't understand is that McCain is liberal. John Kerry asked him to be the V.P. on the 2004 Democratic ticket. The media used to love him. Now, the media is largely to blame for polarizing America as it is. I blamed the media for inciting the L.A. riots for playing the video of Rodney King 24/7. Well, the media has turned attack dog on McCain and covered for Obama. People are angry on both sides and the media is at fault for poisoning minds and omitting facts. I just watched this video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQalRPQ8stI
and I couldn't believe it. The shout down tactics remind me of the National Socialists in Germany. Funny thing to hear the same fascists use the word NAZI. One thing the far left should understand; Republicans don't care for McCain and don't like W or the war...but we DO fear what a Socialist like Obama could do to this country...and that we'll never get lost freedoms back once they're gone.
One more thing...I saw someone claim Republicans were responsible for the KKK. No sir. Go back and re-educate. The KKK was started by Dems after the war and hated Reps most. They marched around the Catholic Church where my Irish Grandfather and Grandmother were married. The hoods didn't cover well, they knew who they were...and they were all Democrats.

Ah, yes....the champions of free speech are at it again! All speech is tolerated...except for anything or anyone who disagrees with them.
I live in Republican Orange County and I'm afraid to put a McCain/Palin sign on my lawn or bumper sticker on my car because I KNOW how intolerant most of the liberals are and how shrill they have become. They would deface my property in a heartbeat if given the chance.
On the other hand, if conservatives see one of their bumper stickers or lawn signs, we just feel sorry for them and silently marvel at their ignorance.
I will be the first to defend even an idiot's right to free speech, because if you take away their right, you take away mine.

This is just another example of the strong arm tactics used my the Obama campaign and his supporters to try to silence the opposition. I am a McCain/Palin supporter because I support the right to free speech.
Obama's Marxist, socialist, and communist policies would eliminate this right and many others. Wake up all of you who support him, because he will throw you and your rights under the bus, just like he has his associates Rezco, Ayers, and Rev. Wright, once you are no longer useful to him.

It was not the simple act of burning a few dollars worth of campaign sign that sets me on fire. It is the attempt to terrorize a home owner from expressing his, or her political preference. This cowardly act by simple minded terrorist is not any different than the KKK burning crosses in negros front yards a very few years ago. Oh yes, there is a small difference, the KKK brought the crosses they burned with them and they did not belong to the home owner.
Intimidation in any color, or belief is still intimidation and those who resort to it ought to spend a few years in the lock up for their ill informed activities.
Oh yes, all negros are not black, most are more or less brown sort of like whites who spend too much time out cooking themselves in the hot burning sun.

"So Mike won't be making the protests anymore?
"How many more people will turn coward when the time comes to storm the barricades and repress the hatespeakers who simply refuse to get with the program?
"It is just that sort of thinking which will allow four to eight more years of unregulated, uncontrolled, destructive capitalist policies through the election of McPalin.
"People must be shown that Obama is the way out, the truth being spoken, and the hope for true change.
"Remember that Lenin and Che were considered criminals by repressors in their times before being championed as heroes for the people and true, enduring change agents.
"Change must come from the streets.
"So let the hammerblows for change through Obama be struck in the streets of Portland."
So, conservatives who refuse to "get with the program" are to be "repressed" and "shown that that Obama is the way out"? Or else what? Is big bad Bill Ayers going to bomb us out of existence?

Can any of you Obama supporters give me one example of anything the man has achieved that helped someone else? Just one! So far the man is an empty suit. Voting for Obama simply because you don't like McCai is really pretty dumb. It was McCain back in 2005 that recommended the Congress investigate Freddie and Fannie and it was the Democrats that failed to do so. In 1999 it was the Democrats that pressured the banks to lend money to folks who couldn't possibly repay the loans...the excuse being that it would increase home sales and create jobs for the poor.
Well, you see what you got.
Don't get emotional folks. Look up the facts, pay attention to what really took place. I have concluded that there are many folks who'll vote for Obama simply because he's the guy the Media and his party want to see in office. I asking the fence sitters to take a close look at the facts.

Those of us who will defend America are not not going to be down on any "Barricades" you're "storming" - we'll be in a window 300 yards away, with a match rifle, just like our ancestors who threw the British out. You don't have a friggin CLUE what you're're bargaining for if you try a full-scale revolt. The cops will be able to just stand back and watch the fun - and that's exactly what they'll do, while you little babies WAIL for them to come protect you from the consequences of your soft, pampered, middle-class Mama's boy Marxist delusions.

McCain and Palin are playing with fire, no pun intended, but these idiots should have known better. This is precisely why McCain and Palin need to tone down the rhetoric. It brings out the worst in people. Can't wait to celebrate an Obama victory on Nov. 5th...Cheers from Ohio!!"
So that's your excuse? A random guy (maybe even an Obama plant) yells a random threat at a rally and the candidate immediately rebukes him, but it justifies punks throwing Molotov cocktails at a house in a different state because the family who lives there has that candidate's sign on his lawn?
I'd like to see you make that stand up in court. When are you flying to Oregon to testify for these two delinquents?

I knew this election cycle was going crazy when I saw

them he'd tax the pants off their income level. Ignorance like that only comes around when people are

Okay, first of all let me say that I am an Obama supporter, but I do not condone what these men did. HOWEVER, there seem to be a lot of Republicans here saying that their party doesn't do such things, and I can tell you that's simply not true. I used to have a small Obama sign. It got stolen. I got another. It was stolen, too. So I got one of the big wooden ones that aren't easily removed. It was egged, and then somebody rammed it with their car. It hasn't been burned yet, but I'm guessing it's just a matter of time. Probably the only reason my house hasn't been vandalized is because it sits too far from the street. I've been yelled at by people in other cars because of my bumper sticker. My husband was physically threatened for wearing a T-shirt with the campaign logo on it. I condemn the actions of the men who burned the McCain sign. Tell me, Republicans, do you condemn the actions of the people who did these things to me?

Yes, extremists exist at both ends of the political spectrum. We should not hate them, but realize that they are relatively small in number and mainly just noisy and obnoxious. The extremists I have encountered are also rather cowardly, expressing their views only anonymously or in group gatherings. Obama? McCain? Who cares. Nothing will change until we take money out of politics. I hate to say it, but I believe only a frightening, common enemy will bring the vast majority of us "normal" Americans together.
BTW - this was not a harmless prank perpetrated by by a couple of kids after the bars let out. It takes premeditation and effort to make a molotov cocktail and throw it within feet of an occupied home.

I live just outside of the Portland Metro area. I have a McCain yard sign, and 2 bumper stickers on my car. The other day my sister was driving my daughter home and some guy flipped her off because of the bumper stickers. Shows true colors of a person...I can't say he speaks for all Obama supporters, but it made me think twice about keeping my bumper stickers on...because I have a small child and don't want any harm brought her way...People need to think twice about their actions before they act, because even if we disagree about politics, no one should be harmed/violated/endangered (unless there is a real threat and it is for defense!) I keep the bumper stickers and yard sign because I want to teach my daughter that no one can intimidate me to change my views and no one should be able to use intimidation to silence-we have great freedoms in our country, and I hate it when others' try and abuse them!

Ira Braithwaite says:
How many more people will turn coward when the time comes to storm the barricades and repress the hatespeakers who simply refuse to get with the program?
Thus, he calls the McCain campaign and supporters "hatespeakers", but then he says:
"Change must come from the streets. So let the hammerblows for change through Obama be struck in the streets of Portland."
Now this is a true socialist, a "fellow traveller". The "means justifies the end" crowd. They see the speck in their brothers eye, but miss the log in their own.

JG: It has been the left, with the assistance of the enabling Media that have told us that McCarthy suppressed free speech, but those of us that were there recognize that he was a great American warning us of subversives in Government, and he was proved correct (btw, it’s my contention that subversives have gone much further this time around, infiltrating the MSM, academia and the government). You say that ‘numerous GOP administrations” have used similar tactics to shut up the people, yet you don’t give one bit of evidence. The last administration that was ‘known’ to truly shut up the people was Woodrow Wilson’s, a Democrat. Magazines and newspapers carried word from that administration in the form of advertisements asking fellow citizens to report on other any other fellow citizen who said the war was being lost. Too many out there who went to college and were fed the pap of the professors from the left and read the same old MSM. Read real history or check with your elders to find out the truth.

Police standard operating procedure, even in a liberal state like Oregon, is to charge a suspect with every violation of law based on the elements of a particular crime(s). It's the prosecutor and/or the court system, via grand jury indictment and/or probable cause hearing, that will dictate what charges, if any, will be adjudicated in court. What the nitwits did was essentially tantamount to recklessly firing a machine gun and miraculously failing to do any real damage. It could have been far worse and the authorities were correct in "throwing the book" at them. The real issue here is that this act is one of intimidation and violates a citizen's right to express his or her political views. More disturbing is Obama's employment of prosecutors and police officials in Missouri to threaten criminal action(when it's actually a civil matter) to squelch free expression of political views. All that is missing is brown shirts and and swastika arm bands. I want to believe that episodes, such as the one regarding the sign, are the exception, and given wide spread coverage by a biased media. Otherwise, I live in a neighborhood with roughly an equal number of Obama and McCain signs in various front yards. I know of not one single incident of vandalism, or violence of any nature in my neighborhood. The question is, after the election, regardless of winner, will people pull together, move on, and get this country back on its feet?

Is that what you suppose the average Republican does when they see somebody with an Obama sign or shirt?
If so, then you really don't have any right to be offended by what these two men did, as it's what you would expect of your own party. If NOT, however, then you have no basis for going on about how "typical" this is, and how all Democrats are as hateful as these men are. They are at one extreme. The people who wrecked my signs and threatened my husband are at the other. Most of us are somewhere in the middle, and I don't appreciate being lumped in with these two men any more than you would appreciate being lumped in with the people I wrote about. Neither party has a monopoly on this sort of thing, and it would do us all a lot of good if we would stop pretending they did.

could you imagine if it were McCain supporters that did this? It would be all over the mainstream news as the main headline. Just another example of the liberal media's hatred of Republicans. Just another exmple...in 2006 McCain warned of disaster with Freddie Mac and Fannie May with having 16 other Republicans signing on, not one Demorat signed it, including Obama, yet Obama seems to be winning on the economy issue. One question for Demorats, what do you think will happen when Obama raises taxes on corporations? Overseas they go, and then charging double as payback. Wake up demorats!

The guys should have got a paper McCain sign and burned it in a "peaceful manner". The right to protest is a good thing, but not to scare, intimidate, and destroy personal property. I support their right to peacfully protest McCain, even burn a campaign sign that they have lawfully aquired. On the other hand, I think they need to look on a personal level, that this action would make them look very radical. That's a turn-off to the masses. Let them show their true colors. I WILL DEFINETLY BE VOTING FOR MCCAIN/PALIN!!!!!!!

Should Obama size control of the government, he will send out Bill Ayers with his other gleeful terrorist thugs and his Field Marshall Nation of Islam Leader Louis"Obama is DEFINITELY the Messiah" Farrakhan to firebomb your house and burn up your children should anyone dare display or say anything in opposition to the Dear Leader.
This is not an isolated case. Obama-crats have been waging a quiet terrorist campaign against anyone who does not agree with them for months now. Same as the Kerry Terrorist-Crats and the Gore-Terrorist-Crats before him.
This is the same way all totalitarian dictators come to power. The warning signs were always ignored.
The end always justifies the means with the Neo-Marxists that make up the Democrat party these days. That is why there is massive voter fraud in all 50 states by the Neo-Marxist-Crats.
The election will likely have to be declared null and void and postponed until we get to the bottom of this ACORN coup and make examples out of all connected with ACORN.

The one "constant" about liberals-- they aren't.
Consider this: Every one of Obama's opposition has been called a RACIST. Even John Edwards.
Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Geraldine Ferraro, John Edwards, Joe Biden, John McCain, and of course, Sarah Palin.
Oppose Obama? Your a racist. Disagree with Obama? Your a racist.
Code words: Described by Obama supporters (Sharpton, Jacksion, Waters, Meeks, Brazile ET AL) as certain words racist use to fan the flames. Words like "fairy Tale", "Not like us" are "code words".
It would seem that the real "code words" are any words Obama supporters choose to imply racism. And, once accused, you are guilty-- of course!
A liberal's idea of UNITY is the elimination of any dissenting opinion. What better way to eliminate dissenting opinion than to label the dissenter a racist?
Watch the hearings back when Republicans were calling for regulation on Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac. The Democrats were so sure that any criticism of Raines was based in racism that they were spitting and cursing! Harry Reid, recently on an interview, when asked about the 3 Obama advisors tied to the mortgage scandal, singled out Raines as an African American and accused the radio interviewer of being a racist. Look at Letterman and Leno. Ever hear them make jokes about Obama? They poked fun at Hillary, they ragged on McCain, they target Palin and make fun of Biden. But, Obama? They don't dare.
If Obama becomes President, any criticism of his policies can (and will) be dismissed with the wave of the magic "racist" wand.
Is this what we want?

"JG, you seem to forget that the KKK does not represent conservatives."
------------
Nor do these thugs represent ME, or the majority of Obama supporters, or a even those who favor a left-leaning ideology (by the way, I'm registered Libertarian.)
Sensible people make their beliefs known at the ballot box and through SENSIBLE dialogue...they don't torch lawn signs, or smash windows, or burn crosses, or burn books, or hang effigies of Obama from trees, or burn flags, or burn effigies of GW Bush, or yell "traitor" and "kill him" at a McCain/Palin rally, or call Obama supporters "Marxists."
In my opinion, anyone who feels the need to resort to such hate-filled, vitriolic means to get their point across - be they burning lawn signs or calling people "sicko pinko Marxists" - probably isn't 100% convinced they really are right, or isn't sure how to back up their claim with fact and reason, and is simply spewing rhetoric fed to them by their fellow lemmings.
"Get your facts, right, "JG". It's always been Republicans in favor of civil rights, not Democrats!"
------------
Prove it.
Go ahead - find me absolute proof that the far right has been more in favor of civil liberties than the left.
And I'm choosing "left" vs. "right" because there was a time when Republicans were the more liberal party (Lincoln, et al.)
I'm thinking right off the top of things like suffrage, the reversal of Jim Crow laws, giving blacks the right to vote, desegregation, gay rights, free speech issues surrounding pornography, banned books, etc. as pretty well-known examples where the right wanted to strip away civil liberties to impose their own agenda/morality.
The really interesting thing about this issue is...
Nowhere in the article did it state that these hooligans are supporters of Obama, or radical leftists, or Democrats.
Perhaps they were just punks out looking to torch something, and are too stupid to have a political ideology.
But alas, my post will probably be followed by a bunch of nonsensical and desperate rambling about "Nobama" or "Marxists" and will be void of any real intelligence.

These are two young men who endangered lives and property through the use of felonious (very serious) crime. That wasn't a mistake, it was intentional and motivated by hatred and intolerance. I have to wonder if two young men made a mistake and burned down your house, killing people you love in the process, if you would be so "tolerant" of their conduct.

Where's David Gergen, Frank Rich, Mo Dowd, Rep Louis, Obama at on commenting on the violence on the left side of the aisle? Where's the MSM on this and many other incidents on the left's violence? I don't approve of it on either side, but this omission of "equal" time for all of this is seemingly missing at the same level of the way it's reported if it's a Republican. Well, that's typical of the tolerant open-minded liberal progressive (marxist) thugs that have taken over the Democrat party and news outlets such as MSNBC. They constantly bemoan the virtually non-existent hate, bigotry, and racism of Republicans when in fact it is Democrats who always resort to violence and vandalism to silence any dissent to their planned communist tyranny. Just watch MSNBC and the constant vitriolic hate and derision directed towards Republicans, conservatives, Christians and other decent people. You Democrats better reign in your "Red Guard" thugs before this country explodes into civil war. Be on notice that We The People will NEVER accept your communist tyranny.
And JG, Obama IS a marxist. Guaranteed. You can take it to the bank. Of course, you microcephalic drug-infested liberal nitwits in Oregon probably think that's a good thing.

How can you even say something like that? If people didn't care about their country they wouldn't be leaving comments about this article. It's their rights as Americans to do so and until it's decided to take that away, I'll keep on fighting to protect our country, their rights, and your right to say what you want.

"No ties to lines drawn by humans"
That's an interesting choice for a nickname, because it directly contradicts the very question you asked.
If you have no ties to lines drawn by humans, then you shouldn't be making blanket statements of condemnation based merely on your surface scan of a few vitriolic posts.
And if you have no ties to lines drawn by humans, there really is no such thing as "America," and therefore, nothing for anyone to hate.
The funny thing about your question is...to whom is it directed? There are many extreme and nasty anti-Obama posts, but there are a few (mine included) that certainly couldn't have triggered your question.
Did you bother to read before you passed judgment on a large group of people based on very little evidence (something I'm sure is done by those with whom YOU disagree?)

I think one of the reasons people are so angry is they are tired of being marginalized. For 8 years now, my side has been called "anti-christ, leftist nut-job, adolescent, socialist, wing-nut, irrelevant, pro-terror, weak" etc. Essentially I've been called every name in the book despite being well spoken and able to define every element of my liberal agenda. My socio-economic needs are best meet by Democrats. I have not taken a dime of Federal or State money since 1992 including unemployement insurance. I don't believe personal responsibilty is exclusive to REpublicans. Certainly the un-auditable half of the military budget should be slashed (Pentagon I'm looking at you). The difference between parties boils down to what you think is as waste of money, dead end defense deals that benefit only the military industrial complex or domestic social and infrastructural spending that benefit a greater majority of Americans.
The Republican dream is to reduce government to law enforcement and war-mongering.

There is nothing in this article that indicates that the attack was politically motivated or that the perpetrators support Obama. Jumping to the conclusion that the perps were Obama supporters is no different than jumping to the conclusion that an attack by a white on a black must have been racially motivated.
These were idiots who stupidly decided to use a fire bomb for what would have been mischief. Even if they were Obama supporters, that would be no more of a reflection on Obama supporters as a whole than it is of conservatives in general when a Republican goes on a shooting rampage.
Intolerance for opposing views is not unique to any particular political party. People who blame others for their plight will sometimes lash out. There are always a few reactionaries.

Remind me to call you any time I need an absolute authority on anything!
Just Google the name on my list with the word RACIST behind it. Or YOUTUBE it. (or continue on in your smug all knowing world).
Hillary Clintons campaign also cried "sexist". McCain is constantly derided for his age. Hillary never accused McCain of sexism. McCain never complains about being criticized for his age.
What other off point issues would you like to discuss? The color of the sky?
What IS your point?
I made a factual, documentable, statement. I made it because I have a very strong concern that freedom of speech will become even more limited in this already PC gone berzerk society. I made it because freedom of speech has been lost on almost every college campus in this country. I made it because the MSM is in lock step with the liberal politicians and, with public school children and college graduates already indocterinated, it wouldn't take much for "The One", "The Messiah", the charismatic Mr. Obama, to take us unhindered into totalitarianism. That may not be his agenda-- or anyones agenda at this point. But, when you have generations of young people already taught and ready to believe and, a propaganda machine like the MSM at the ready, How hard would it be? Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
This stopped being about "issues" (what issues, both of them are flailing around -- this is nothing more than a high school Class President race with candidates buying votes with T shirts and cookies, when Obama's campaign and supporters threw down the race card.
Maybe the two guys that burned the McCain sign were just two drunken fools. And, maybe Mohammed Atta was just high on PCP.

The only thing accomplished by the comments above is the further demonstration that the western philosophical model is dead.
There is no correct response - only endless rationalization, advocation and vitriol.
Humanity has been marginalized, disenfranchised and spiritually euthanized by the Malthusian Shekel gatherers. We are at the end of it - thank ALLAH.

If all the "wisdom" posted here isn't enough to convince even the densest of morons - the readership is truely comatose.

If one can grasp this - one will have all they need to thrive in the coming times.
The clues are here, there and everywhere and are chrono-independent. "seek ye first UNDERSTANDING - all other things will come".

I didn't see anywhere in this article that mentioned WHOSE sign it was---even the charges against them suggests that they were destroying their own property. Notice no mention of "vandalism", which would be tearing up somebody else's property. They "tracked" them down, rather than hunting or chasing them.
"destructive devices" can mean anything from fire crackers to an actual bomb, a can of butane or lighter fluid, depending on the situation.
These guys were probably doing this in their own yard, with their own prop (the sign).----looks to me like police may end up looking stupid once again...
I hope nobody squirts too much charcoal lighter on their barbecue grills---

sixpack6t9: maybe some of the other posters get their news from places other than the Tribune. The event was pretty big news on a number of local media outlets last night.
While it was a McCain/Palin sign, the biggest problem is that it was only feet away from an occupied house in which the occupants were asleep. Indeed, the TV footage showed the side of the house was singed by the fire. If it had happened a month or so ago when things were so dry, it is very likely there would have been either serious injuries or fatalities and a great deal of property damage.
Moltov cocktails *are* dangerous weapons - just ask a few German tank crews from the 1940s. But not just that, they're indiscriminate - when you throw one, the flames go wherever the gasoline happens to end up.
This wasn't just simple vandalism like defacing a sign, there could have potentially been some real serious consequences to the home owners. Of course, the felonies will be pled out to Class A misdemeanors and these guys lives won't really be any more ruined than they were last week.

Bob....
Just Google the name on my list with the word RACIST behind it. Or YOUTUBE it. (or continue on in your smug all knowing world).

Ah yes - someone tries to post something that is NOT over-the-top, extreme, ranting & raving in absolute terms...and suddenly they are "smug" and "all knowing."
Typical accusation from those with little basis in fact. Got anything more original than that?
Hillary Clintons campaign also cried "sexist". McCain is constantly derided for his age. Hillary never accused McCain of sexism. McCain never complains about being criticized for his age.
--------------
You completely avoided what I said: immediately after the announcement of Sarah Palin as VP pick, criticism and concern about her abilities (rightly so) popped up in the media and, cautiously, from the Obama campaign. The McCain camp responded almost immediately and multiple times with claims of sexism.
My point (which you missed) is that the single biggest flaw of a majority of the posts here (including yours) is that
a) To scream about the supposed "sins" of the Left or the Obama campaign is to completely ignore the equal, if not more heinous, "sins" of the Right and the McCain campaign.
b) Speaking in absolute or extreme terms i.e. "all liberals hate free speech" or "Obama will turn this country Marxist" is illogical and out of touch.
The same is true of leftists who call McCain or the Right "fascists."
Those claims are equally ridiculous, and are generally used by people who are incapable of rational thought, those who fear any idea or ideology that doesn't fit into their narrow and misguided beliefs.
Statements like that say alot more about the intelligence of the speaker than they do the actual state of affairs and the future of the USA.
But, you know what they say about trying to rationalize with the irrational...

Are you kidding me?
First of all, there is absolutely no indication that this act of vandalism had anything at all to do with politics. Perhaps these punks were just that; punks who were out being destructive.
Second of all, Obama has never advocated any of this and has condemned any disrespect whatsoever to McCain and Palin. Obama even tamps down "boos" at his events. To try to claim that this is somehow Obama's fault is ridiculous.
Contrast Obama's constant respect for McCain and Palin with their absurd disrespect for Obama including their actual incitement of violence. They have become disgusting examples of what America is not.
Third of all, I have had repeated vandalism of all Democratic signs in my neighborhood. Never once would I consider touching anyone else's property (which is what campaign signs are.) I think that is terrible behavior and is in no way acceptable.
I would think that the writers of the article might want to balance their reporting with some examples of Democratic campaign signs and offices and property being destroyed.

Well, Some punks threw a huge pumpkin at our screen door and demolished it. They laughed and ran away on a car last week. We and many neighboors have Obama signs. We reported it to police and they said they could not do anything about it. I opened a case ID just in case they are doing the same to other neighboors. This was a violent attack. They smashed our screen door. Since it is an old house, the screen door is custom made. 500 dollars deductible on Home Insurance? Who foots the bill? They are fortunate that I wasn't awake because I would have shotgun blasted the f%^&**!

Wow. Plenty of anger, rhetoric, stupidity, and blatant baiting in these comments. "Anyone who would burn someone elses property because they don't agree with them is a typical Obama supporter." RIGHT, Terry, RIGHT. In fact, I'm going out right now to burn down someone's property. While I'm at it, I'm going to push my boss out a window (he drinks Mountain Dew; I don't like it), kick puppies (carnivores!), and flatten some Trimet bus tires (fossil fuels are evil!).
Don't worry; your anger and hatred will keep you warm and smug when the world moves on with President Obama.

All of the above informs me that McCain supporters are fearful, angry, violent name callers. Gosh isn't that how the Gore supporters felt when Bush stole the election? Fear - it works for REpublicans - let it run your life too!

"Hey, just so everyone knows, it wasn't the fire dept. that caught those guys, it was my brother. He decided to wait in the bushes for a couple hours after the fire department left and one of the guys that threw the Molotov cocktail actually came back. My brother jumped him and held him until the police arrived. Go to the Oregonian homepage for the full details."

Nope -- pretty much every comment in this thread has it wrong. Lots of emotion and assumptions.
I know the district attorney who's been working on the case. The case has everything to do with drunkeness and stupidity and just about nothing to do with politics.

Thank you to all the Jurassic capitalist, oppressor, hatemongering Fascists who have, through their responses, proven how scared they are of the change that WILL be sweeping across this country.
Accept the fact that, with support from Portland's municipal government, the hammerblows WILL be struck.
The power WIll be with the people who are taking it back from the corporate slavedrivers.
Obama IS the way out, the truth spoken, and the one true hope for sweeping change.
These two young political martyrs who threw their fists in the air against an icon and banner of enduring oppression are but a small indication of the dissent seeking to conquer the streets.
Yes, their names will be sullied, their reputations dragged through the mud, distortions will rule the day, but, ultimately, truth burnishes proletarian heroism.
Accept that Change is inevitable.

I find it interesting that almost all of the major media outlets and numerous newspapers across the country reported the story of people shouting "kill him" at a Republican rally in Scanton, PA recently. Yet none of them have bothered to report the findings of the Secret Service that investigated those claims. Well, here they are..The agent in charge of the Secret Service field office in Scranton, Agent Bill Slavoski, after interviewing over 20 non-security people who attended the rally, along with an undisclosed number of additional secret service agents and other law enforcement officers, and not one heard the comment. In fact, the only person interviewed who heard the comment was Scanton Times-Tribune reporter David Singleton. Singleton was unable to describe the person who allegedly made the threat because he claims he only heard it come from "somewhere in the crowd". Not one recording device in use in the area (there were literally dozens) recorded the threat. The story is false.

Has anyone bothered to find out what political party these people belong to or if it was a drunken act?
It doesn't matter whose sign was burned. It matters that this was a crime and stupid. Just because 3 men burned a sign doesn't mean that Obama would ever support this type of action. Or McCain would support it.
No matter who is elected president, he will have a lot of work to do to unite such a seriously divided country. I'm ashamed of all of this hate.

happyjack: The clips have been displayed endlessly on all media outlets. Anyone with have a brain can hear the friggin threats. Do you understand that Obama was given Secret Service protection earlier in the campaign than any previous primary challengers because of death threats.
You have no sense of reality, no sense of history and no idea what truth is. Turn off Faux News and read something out of your comfort zone. You might learn something.
