Council proclamation honors Voodoo Doughnut’s Portland Creme

Voodoo Doughnut opened a second Portland-area store in May 2008 on Northeast Davis Street.

It is official. Voodoo Doughnut's Portland Creme is the “official city doughnut.”

The City Council voted unanimously Wednesday morning to name the official doughnut, a first for Portland.

Voodoo Doughnut’s Portland Creme, is a raised doughnut filled with cream and covered in chocolate with “two eyes.”

The eyes make it different from a "Boston Creme," said Voodoo Doughnut co-owner Kenneth Pogson. The eyes were added to distinguish it from that East Coast pastry, he told the City Council.

Mayor Tom Potter introduced his official doughnut resolution during the City Council’s Christmas Eve meeting at City Hall.

According to Potter’s resolution, the “official doughnut” designation will express Portlanders’ “deepest gratitude to Voodoo Doughnut management for its dedication in the face of these stringent economic times in providing employment opportunities . . . and above all, creating and naming a doughnut after our beloved city that leaves a lasting taste and fond memories on its customers near and far away.”
