FBI on the hunt for ‘Benjamins Bandit’

The “Benjamins Bandit” was caught on a camera during a May 30 robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank on Northeast Sandy Boulevard.

The FBI is looking for a suspected bank robber who has hit a handful of Portland-area banks during the past two months, walking away with only $100 bills.

The “Benjamins Bandit” hit his fifth bank Friday, June 26, robbing the United Advantage Credit Union in the 1400 block of North Killingsworth at about 11 a.m.

The FBI said the suspected bank robber walks into the bank, demands cash in only $100 bills and then leaves with the cash. He doesn’t use a weapon or threaten anyone, FBI officials said.

The FBI described the bandit as an African-American man in his 30s, between 5-foot-10 and 6 feet tall, wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses and the same black leather jacket. He also wears diamond-stud earrings.

The bandit is suspected in four other robberies:

• April 16, 11 a.m., Riverview Community Bank on Northeast Halsey Street.

• May 22, 1 p.m., Consolidated Federal Credit Union on Northeast Sandy Boulevard.

• May 30, 2:56 p.m., Wells Fargo Bank on Northeast Sandy Boulevard.

• June 12, 2:15 p.m., Bank of the West on Northeast Halsey Street.
