Oregon had the 11th-highest home foreclosure rate in the nation from July to September (the third quarter), according to RealtyTrac, an online seller of foreclosed-property listings.
That’s a slight change from the second quarter of the year, when Oregon had the 12th-highest foreclosure rate in the nation.
There were 76.6 percent more foreclosures in Oregon during the third quarter than a year earlier, during the third quarter of 2008, RealtyTrac reported. There were 7.1 percent more foreclosures last quarter than during the prior three-month period.
Oregon’s foreclosure rate for the month of September ranked 13th-highest among the states. The number of foreclosures last month was 48.5 percent higher than in September 2008.
And the forth highest unemployment in the nation and a Misery Index pegged at over 22% by state economists (combo of un and under employed) ... which go hand in hand with foreclosures. Read more here: http://www.portlandwaterfront.com/discourse/

Well, on the bright side, the Office of Economic Analysis projects that Oregon will be all warm and fuzzy by the first quarter of 2013. Which means that the job market will return to Oregon at the recession level by then. A likely view from that perspective would only suggest that the foreclosure rate isn't going to get any better til then. I would also like to say to the other people that left comments that the title made no reference to Portland. There's alot more land to Oregon than that traffic jam in the north. Mr. Mason, it doesn't really matter which political party is the one running Oregon right now or that did in the past. If it did, then Oregon would have a cute and lolli-popped shaped protective bubble around it and only being ran by your political stupor. Keeping all the things that big brother did wrong away. If your that mad at the foreclosure rate, tell a congressman.

Re: Oregon has 11th-highest foreclosure rate
If property owners can't afford to make their mortgage payments, how are they expected to make their ever increasing property tax payments? A related column in today's Tribune talks about Portland being a great place to live. It takes a lot of tax money to live in Portland and the amount keeps rising year after year even in a deep recession. This is not a way to describe a great place to live.
Instead of funneling hundreds of millions of our tax dollars to pursue expensive green jobs and affordable housing for the indigent, why not spend those millions more wisely and lower our property taxes for a change?
