Columbia Sportswear President and Chief Executive Officer Tim Boyle is involved in the new campaign to recall Mayor Sam Adams.
“I am in favor of calling the question,” Boyle told the Portland Tribune Thursday morning.
Boyle says he recently attended a planning meeting for the campaign. He declined to say who else was there or when the effort would be formally launched.
The sportswear executive says he will contribute money to the campaign, although he would not say how much.
“I will be giving money to it, and it will not be the largest contribution,” Boyle says.
Boyle declined to criticize Adams personally or question his effectiveness as mayor. Instead, Boyle says he believes Portland voters should have an opportunity to decide on whether Adams stays in office.
“Adams is an ambitious guy who works very hard, but the electorate should have a chance to says whether he should be recalled,” Boyle says.
Adams could not be reached for comment.
Boyle has criticized what he calls Portland’s anti-business effort in the past. His company moved its headquarters out of town after being unable to buy a new location that had been set aside for a future MAX light rail station.
