County gets electric cars

County gets three electric cars, new charging station

ADVERTISEMENTS

Clackamas County officials will unveil the county’s new electric cars, along with a new charging station, at a ceremony next week.

“We’re excited to add to the growing network of vehicle charging stations in Clackamas County and the region, said County Commission Chair Lynn Peterson. “Electric vehicles are one of a number of ways to use our limited energy resources more efficiently and sustainably.”

The charging station, which the public can use for free, is at the Development Services Building at the county’s Red Soils campus, 150 Beavercreek Rd., Oregon City. The station, provided by PGE as part of a growing network around the region, has eight standard 120-volt outlets that can be used by anyone with an electric vehicle and a charging cord. Peterson and PGE officials will host a ceremony at the station Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 9 a.m.

The county’s three new electric vehicles are GEM cars, manufactured by Global Electric Motorcars. They are 100 percent battery-electric and emit zero tailpipe emissions. The cars will be used by the County’s Technical Services and Facilities departments for trips around the county’s Red Soils campus in Oregon City.

“With a top speed of 25 mph and a range of up to 30 miles on a charge,” Peterson noted, “the cars are ideal for transporting workers and equipment on frequent, relatively short trips between buildings.”

Stupid beyond belief, and a horrendous waste of my tax money.

Re: County gets electric cars

Maybe now Lynn will quit mooching rides from staff and then brag about how she takes transit everywhere.

Re: County gets electric cars

Why didn't these fools buy a couple of used bicycles and golf carts. Probably 1/1000th of the price and would serve the same function. One more step to cementing our insolvency. Stupid beyond belief.

Re: County gets electric cars

Most of those Clackamas County employees who work in those two buildings have huge fat bottoms and guts and need the exercise. Maybe they're worried about having heart attacks while walking. When you're 300 lbs and totally out of shape, you have to worry about that sort of thing.

Re: County gets electric cars

Yikes - county employees need high end transportation BETWEEN BUILDINGS.

Didn't need to read THAT while I am forced to embrace the notion electric cars are the future or whatever.

Sounds like more PUBLIC EMPLOYEE PANDERING - unnecessarily. Graft and pander, graft and pander - with our tax dollars - because this most likely happened due to ONE TIME ONLY stimulus dollars gifted to PGE instead of in the hands of the taxpayers...
