Texting Aloha driver arrested after car hits pole

Everyone knows that drinking and driving is dangerous. So is texting and driving.

How about both at the same time?

That’s what Washington County sheriff’s deputies said happened to a 44-year-old Aloha man early Saturday morning.

Deputies said that at about 12:28 a.m. Gerald Adams allegedly crashed his 1997 Ford Taurus into a utility pole in the 19000 block of Southwest Kinnaman Road. PGE crews had to close Kinnaman Road for several hours while they replaced the damaged pole.

After field sobriety tests, Adams was arrested for driving while intoxicated and was taken to the Washington County Jail.

A sheriff’s sergeant came across the crash while driving along Kinnaman Road. He found Adams uninjured and walking around the damaged Taurus.

Deputies said Adams told crash investigators that he had been texting when his car collided with the pole.
