Sources Say • Is Kane able — or willing?

Although organizers of the new Mayor Sam Adams recall campaign have yet to announce who will run it, at least one experienced campaign consultant has been offering advice. He is Jack Kane, founder and president of Creative Services, a local communications strategy firm.

Kane is also a longtime adviser to Kevin Mannix, the former legislator who has run unsuccessfully as a Republican for Oregon governor and the 5th Congressional District.

Although Kane did not return repeated calls for comment, several sources said he has been involved in numerous meetings and conference calls with other recall supporters.

It also appears that Jasun Wurster, chief organizer and spokesman for the previous failed volunteer recall campaign, will play a role in the new effort. In an Oct. 28 e-mail to other recall supporters, Wurster said he will serve as the volunteer coordinator. The e-mail also solicited donations to the Future Portland Political Action Committee that will be filed after the new recall petition is submitted to the City Auditor’s Officer – a filing that’s supposed to occur after organizers have raised at least $150,000 for the paid manager and signature gatherers.

Columbia River Crossing in trouble?

Vancouver voters may be on the verge of delivering a one-two punch that knocks out the Columbia River Crossing project.

On Wednesday morning theyappeared to have elected anti-bridge toll candidate Tim Leavitt as mayor, defeating incumbent pro-tolling incumbent Royce Pollard. Transportation officials in both states say tolls are necessary to build the project, estimated to cost up to $4.1 billion.
