Police arrested a Gresham woman Monday, Nov. 9, for falsely claiming to have been stabbed and robbed Saturday night.
Shannon R. Kelley, also known as Shannon Dove, 36, faces accusations of initiating a false police report, improper use of 9-1-1 and second-degree disorderly conduct, said Sgt. Rick Wilson, police department spokesman.
Gresham police arrested the woman at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, two days after she told police that someone stabbed her in the upper left bicep and stole her purse while she was leaving her house at 1332 N.E. 183rd Ave. at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7.
She said a short person wearing all black rushed up from behind, stabbed her and stole her purse. She did not see whether the suspect was male or female, but described the assailant as about 5 feet tall and wearing all black.
Doctors treated her non-life threatening wound at Oregon Health & Science University.
Wilson said police became suspicious when they found the woman’s “stolen property” in her apartment while she was at the hospital. Noting inconsistencies in her story, detectives questioned the woman again and she reportedly admitted to making up the attack, Wilson said.
Kelley told police that while she was injecting heroin, the needle became stuck in her arm. She tried to cut the needle out with a razor blade, but she cut too deeply, causing a significant injury. Scared, she made up the story about being robbed.
I agree with 'johnedogscuba'. After 14 years of constant burglaries at my house (187th) I moved to a nice little village on Guam. Portland can have it's crime, crooked politicians who cater to the mecican voters to keep them in office and the city council who only looks to increasing thier pay. I spent years working w/ the gresham police to clean up the hood, only to be told they can't arrest known criminals on public property.

And John, you are suggesting that this is all because of the light rail coming to town?
Interesting, considering I live literally 100 yards from a MAX station in Beaverton and we have no issues at all. And it's not about the ethnic makeup of the community, either, as this area is heavily populated with Latinos as well as Asians.
Your problems have far more to do with the socio-economic class that is either attracted to, or has little other choice than to live in, an area like Gresham...and that class is not limited to one or two non-white races.
Besides - this article said nothing about ethnicity, and the victim herself may have fabricated the whole thing. So why did race even come up?
I'll tell you this - there's good and bad in every race...criminals and racist bigots alike are a disgrace to their ethnicity, and to the human race in general.

Re: Purse snatcher stabs Gresham woman in front of her house
Sounds like a normal day in Crackwood. I have lived here 38 years, and have seen so many changes since light rail was put in...G.I. Joes gone, as well as Fred Meyer, BurgerKing, Griz and Lori's B@I Tavern, etc. Only to be replaced by Flea Markets, and Don Pedros.I won't even use Stark between 181st and 190th. The danger of hitting someone, and so many crosswalks in that stretch, you might as well shut down the street. My how times and culture have changed, and i don't think i'm all that old. It's a sad state when i can't even read a billboard, because it's all in Spanish. I don't want to be predudice, but i'd like to move more into the burbs, with this economy we can't always get what we want. I'm just glad that there are just as many good people around no matter what their ethnicity. Boy times have changed. What are parents teaching today?... look at what's happening. TV's raising our kids!!
