Oregon running back LaGarrette Blount will return to the Ducks’ lineup Saturday night. He was reinstated Sunday by the team after being suspended in September for punching a Boise State player.
ADVERTISEMENTS
University of Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount will suit up for the Ducks when they play host to Arizona State on Saturday night.
The Ducks have reinstated Blount, a senior who was suspended after a postgame incident in the season-opening loss at Boise State.
Blount missed eight games but has been practicing with the team since his suspension.
He rushed for minus-five yards in the Boise State game.
Oregon coach Chip Kelly said he decided Sunday night to recommend that Blount be put back on the active roster. University President Richard Lariviere and Pac-10 Commissioner Larry Scott approved the move, Oregon school officials said.
Everyone needs a second chance we all make mistakes hopefully we learn from them become a better person....

I just notified the UO alumni office that, because of Blount's reinstatement I want no contact from the university ever again. Of any kind.
If this was a fifteen year-old they could make a case for "another chance" but, sadly, it's an adult and in view of Saturday's loss to Stanford they've made a very transparent effort to regain the team's momentum. And in the process they've lost whatever credibility as an "institution of higher learning" they once had. Obviously times have changed. Time for us all to move on.

I think bringing Blount is a big mistake. I think the His coach should leav right behind him. This is a very bad decision.

I would normally agree with the "second chance" philosophy - however in this case I don't believe it's a matter of offering up "another chance".
Mr. Blount demonstrated his lack of character in the incident - and character isn't something additional "chances" are likely to improve.
Down south, we'd say "His momma didn't raise him right". And this suspension won't help that. Oh, sure - he'll probably mind his p's & q's, and put on a good show for all the folks. But really change? Not likely - and reinstating him will not improve his chances to straighten out - the whole incident will soon be forgotten & he'll continue to carry the same attitude around, knowing that all will be forgiven down the road "He's a STAR, after all....."
Gotta agree with Bart, it's time to move on.....

Shocking. The Ducks lose a game and throw all their morals out the window for the sake of their BCS ranking by reinstating a guy who should have been banned from the NCAA. Way to taint your team, Ducks. Bravo.

I can't believe a fine institution such as University of Oregon would make a decision of reinstatement for this individual. This is a black-eye for the university that will not go away now. This man's behavior cannot be tolerated and allowing him back is the WRONG decision. It's not the "punch" that was so bad, but he literally went after his own teammates and coaches and could barely be restrained as well as trying to go after fans. He has an anger issue which is out of control.

Maybe they'll put his picture on the side of a building in downtown Portland for us.

Second chance is a great idea, after punishment. What was the punishment? He had to apologize? Oh please.
No more watching Duck athletics or purchasing their merchandise.
Pulling their purse strings is the only way they learn. Remember the Jail Blazers and the changes that came after no one bought tickets?

Two weeks ago Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes was beyond unsportsmanlike, and both cowardess and criminal in his attempt deliberately gouge out the eyes of a pinned, helpless and innocent Georgia runningback,(Washaun Ealey)as both the University of Florida athletic dept. and the SEC did next to nothing about it.----This incident in particular makes the U of O and it's coaching staff as well as Legarrett Blount look like "tiffy girlscouts"----concider:--Blount was provoked by the Boise St. player he hit, the man was able to put up his guard, duck, and fight back if need be.---ENOUGH---put him back on the field!!------Ed---

This is an absolute disgrace. How embarrassing. Apparently criminal behavior is acceptable in PAC 10 football.

Many of these comments are telling a causal story that the data do not support. Those of you who claim that the UO reinstated Blount because of the Stanford beat down are forgetting that there was a discussion about bringing him back three weeks prior to the USC game. Reinstatement was something that was discussed, assuming that Blount met a set of conditions and requirements set forward by Chip Kelly.
Yes, Blount has anger issues, as do many people in this world. Does that mean that his one action, awful as it was, should define his entire life? For all those who wish to berate the UO for this decision, I would honestly like to know if they had never made a mistake in their life for which they hoped for forgiveness.
Don't by the UO merchandise, withdraw from the alumni association, but while you are in the process of doing so, I would encourage you to reflect on the fact that Blount is not a monster, but a person who should be given a pathway to redemption.

I agree...it was a poor decision for Blount to sock the guy in the jaw. Not a nice thing to do. Not the brightest thing to do.
At the same time....this is football for goodness sakes. It can be a violent sport. There will always be rivalries and smack talking and fights. And lets face it folks, we expect to see these things.
I played sports...and I can tell you I saw some *whoopins* handed down in my time. Most of it stemming from personal issues between opposing players. Deep seated hatred that has marinated over time and just ends up coming to a head. Human stuff.
I am not condoning what Blount did.
But I can understand why something like that might happen.

Some say Blount does not have a "good character". I disagree. Young males have a tendency to be aggressive and to sometimes loose control. Most likely Blount will mature into a good adult. Let's give him that chance to do so. Everyone can use a second chance. He was taunted and he struck back. The Boise player should have been suspended for one game.

Re: Blount’s back
I'm surprised it took this long to reinstate him - there's no sense in attempting to hide the school's attitude toward the situation -
The end obviously justifies the means, the game of football more important than the quality of it's players....
