ADVERTISEMENTS
Gresham police arrested a 44-year-old woman Tuesday, Nov. 24, who they say is a suspect in a string of thefts at local churches and schools in the past five months.
Police took Kamila “Kami” Rhodes into custody at about 12:26 p.m. after staff members at Highland Elementary School on Northeast 24th Avenue cornered her in a walk-in safe.
Rhodes faces many accusations related to thefts and burglaries in the area, including five counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree theft, two counts of third-degree theft and one count of possession of a controlled substance (heroin).
Highland School staff members called emergency dispatchers shortly after noon when they caught a woman going through several of the school’s rooms, allegedly trying to steal purses. Staff members struggled with the woman, later identified as Rhodes, and were able to hold her in a walk-in safe until police arrived.
Gresham detectives investigating the recent church and school thefts talked with Rhodes, who told police she was responsible for at least five thefts and burglaries since May or June. Rhodes told police that she took cash from the buildings and from purses to support her drug habit.
Victims of the thefts identified Rhodes from a photo lineup.
Police say the thefts occurred at the Gresham Free Methodist Church, 3101 S.E. Orient Drive; the Mountainview Christian Church, 1890 N.E. Cleveland Ave.; the Gresham Seventh-day Adventist Church, 223 S.E. Cleveland Ave.; Powell Valley Elementary School, 4825 S.E. Powell Valley Road; and Highland Elementary School, 295 N.E. 24th Ave.
Way to go Highland!!!

Uncalled for and cowardly of you, "JC".
If you don't have anything actually relevant to say, shut your yap. Your feeling the need to belittle the woman's appearance and promote transphobia, betrays your own gender insecurity and general feelings of inferiority.
Someday, if you actually ever befriend or (with a miracle happening) actually couple with a real live woman, you will realize they don't all look like the over photoshopped and underfed models you gaze at in magazines and movies, in your mother's basement.

This poor woman needs help, and it is only obvious she was going thru emotional problems. I feel someone should realize this. I personally know her, and she is a beautiful person inside and out. She was driven to this unfortunate situation.

To Sally and LC:
Help for Kami is as close as the next Narc-Anon meeting. They are free and open to anyone who wants to get off drugs and is willing to take the necessary steps to do so.
How is it "only obvious that she is going through emotional problems"? Is it obvious because she is an addict that was caught with drugs on her person? Or is it obvious because she was caught RED HANDED with her hands in someone else's wallet? No one held a gun to her head and made her go into the schools and churches to steal from others. That was HER CHOICE.
Someone who is beautiful inside and out would not stoop to this. She may have been beautiful inside and out at one time, but when the teacher caught her rifling through her belongings there was nothing "beautiful" about it. I know the teacher who caught Kami. I will suggest to her that Kami is beautiful inside and out and see if that gets any sympathy.
Pathetic? Dangerous? Selfish? Ignorant? Scary? Yes she was, but she was NOT beautiful.

I am so sick of bleeding heart liberals who think the perpetrators are really the victims! Maybe you'd like to open your home to this lady for personal attention & rehab.
Did coddling Maurice Clemmons - a multiple felon charged with gunning down the four police officers Sunday morning in a Parkland, WA, coffee shop work?
There's a book FILLED with vast amounts of wisdom about mankind. It's better than any owners manual could ever be. Regarding the human condition, it says:
Genesis 8:21
"...for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth".
Jeremiah 17:9
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?"
Coddle them & not execute swift punishment? Here's what happens:
Ecclesiastes 8:11
"Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil".
Ecclesiastes 9:3
"...also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead."
Jeremiah 13:10
"This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing."
Jeremiah 18:12
"And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart."
