Portland writer Katherine Dunn fought off a female purse snatcher in Northwest Portland on Tuesday afternoon.
Brandy Amber Carroll was arrested fleeing from the scene with the help of a Multnomah County Sheriffs deputy who was in the area and saw the disturbance. She was booked at the downtown Multnomah County Jail on one count of Robbery in the Third Degree, one count of Theft in the First Degree, and one county of Resisting Arrest.
Dunn was not injured in the incident, which happened near Northwest 21st Avenue and Glisan Street around 4:15 p.m. when she was returning home.
Dunn is the author of "Geek Love," "Truck" and "Attic." She is also a longtime boxing writer.

I am a Portland native. One of the quirky "Keep Portland Weirdish" is Portland has a sense of community. I am concerned that passerbys stood and watched without seeking help. This is typically what happens in big cities.
