The family of Marine Cpl. Travis Bradach-Nall is planning a Friday burial for the Portland man, who died in an explosion July 2 while clearing land mines near Karbala, Iraq.
Bradach-Nall, 21, was born and raised in Portland and graduated from Grant High School in 2000. He joined the Marines after graduating and served in Okinawa, Japan, before the war in Iraq.
A trained combat engineer, he helped construct prisoner of war camps and dispose of unexploded ordnance in Iraq.
He is survived by his father, Gary Nall; his mother, Lynn Bradach; and his brother, Nicholas, 19.
His uncle, Portland attorney John Bradach, said Travis recently had volunteered to extend his service in Iraq because “he felt a loyalty to his buddies who were staying on.”
Bradach said Travis came of age during his time in the Marines: “He was searching for himself. He wasn’t the student body president or an all-state athlete in high school, but he was a good kid with a lot of potential.
