Candidate wants a little respect

Amanda Fritz, the Southwest Portland neighborhood activist who is running against city Commissioner Dan Saltzman, disagrees with the local political consultants who say no credible candidates have yet emerged to challenge Saltzman or Commissioner Erik Sten (“Political handlers lay their bets down early,” Oct. 25).

In response to the comments, Fritz says she is a credible candidate, noting that she collected more than 100 voter signatures in her filing petition.

Fritz also disputed the notion that City Council candidates will have a hard time collecting the 1,000 individual $5 contributions to qualify for the funds under the city’s new public campaign financing law. Fritz says she already has collected more than 500 of them.

Bike commute’s over,but not the dispute

After all the trash-talking about whose office will prevail in the recent Bike Commute Challenge, City Hall staffer Brendan Finn (an aide to Commissioner Dan Saltzman) now has one up on Tom Miller (Commissioner Sam Adams’ chief of staff).

The two avid cyclists/skateboarders set the pace for their offices, but Saltzman’s office prevailed. Four of Saltzman’s seven employees participated (not including the commissioner), while five of Adams’ 11 staffers (including Adams part of the time) logged hours.
