Oregon not as cranky as it was

Poll also shows most people want health care reform

According to the survey, 60 percent of voters either strongly or somewhat support Obama’s proposals, compared with 36 percent who either strongly or somewhat oppose them and 7 percent who are undecided.

At the same time, 54 percent of voters believe the proposals will create a government-run health care system, 43 percent believe they will increase the overall cost of health care, and 41 percent believe they will create review panels to determine who receives medical treatment – all of which Obama denies.

“What you’re seeing is a generic reaction against the current health care system,” Hibbitts says. “They support Obama because he wants to change it, even though many of them do not understand what he is proposing.”

“Obama has my qualified support on his health care proposals, but I wish the target would stop moving,” Parson says.

Vann is adamantly against Obama’s health care proposals, saying they will reduce the country’s health care system to that of a Third World country.

“The government isn’t made up of doctors,” Vann says. “It should leave the health care system alone.”

Oregon voters say they overwhelmingly support President Obama’s proposals for changing the health care system, even though large percentages believe some of them will have potentially negative effects. Pollster Tim Hibbitts believes the contradictions show that people are so dissatisfied with the health care system that they will support anyone who favors change. Here are the questions that were asked. Source: Davis, Hibbitts & Midghall, Inc.

Kitzhaber in the lead

The survey also asked how Democrat John Kitzhaber would fare against two announced Republican candidates for governor in next year’s election. Kitzhaber is a former state legislator and Oregon governor who jumped into the 2010 race early this month. The poll found that Kitzhaber is leading a potential Republican challenger, Central Point state Sen. Jason Atkinson, by a 43 percent to 23 percent margin. He has a 46 percent to 21 percent advantage over Lake Oswego businessman Allen Alley.

“The survey found that there is still a level of support for Kitzhaber in Oregon, but it should also be noted that both Atkinson and Alley are relative unknowns,” Hibbitts says.

Despite the wide margins in the survey, Hibbitts cautions that Kitzhaber does not have the race locked up. Much depends on how voters feel about Democrats and the economy a year from now. If their mood sours more, Hibbitts says Kitzhaber will have to spend much of his time separating himself from current Democratic Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski.

The telephone survey was conducted among 400 registered voters between Sept. 12 and 14. It has margin of error of plus or minus 4.8 percent.

Dear Jim:

The above suggests that loyal BHO types would follow him off a cliff....not a healthy way to run a country, but they got change for sure..in DC,and in their wallet or purse.

I sure was happpier when Van Jones was dumped, ACORN was exposed, & the 42 czars were investigated. Now let's take on the tax-payer funded private airports for wealthy Congressmen.

Yes we are doing a lot better if your in to socialism. Government owned and ran car companys and government owned and ran health care and the only way you can make money to feed your family is to work for the government cause they are the only ones hiring thease days.

Re: Oregon not as cranky as it was

The comment from "Dodge Ram" shows a clear lack of understanding of polling and statistics. A sample size of 400 is more than sufficient. Would 10,000 be "better"? Yes, but only slightly, statistically speaking.

And your mall survey would not be random enough to reflect the demographics of Oregon.

Have to say that the right wing-nuts around here are always cranky and snarling. Unless it's we're going to war,or they're wanting to go out and shoot some species to extinction. Then they just can't wait to spend the bucks!

Not too much money to spend when it comes to murdering helpless arabs, seeing naked naked dancing on a pole, or buying beer. No siree, Bob- then there just doesn't seem to be a money problem.

All of you need to take your sorry toothless selves and get out of our state, and our country for that matter. Don't let the border hit ya on the way out either...and take King Rush drughead, Sara the crazy, and those clowns on FOX news with ya too

DEAR PAUL:

Boy the glue you sniff to patch a flat bike tire is really bad for you, that "really" GOOD MEXICAN DOPE, you smoked too much of has clouded whats left of your microscopic brains cells.

Having been a Marine in Nam,my first kill was about 15-16 years old...he pointed that AK47 at me once to often and man you should have seen what a 3 second burst from a "60" will do.

Did I feel bad? No Paul, I drank a warm beer, and went right back to doing what I was sent to do.

My son, 3 tours in Iraq "eliminating" threats to your worthless skin, and none of them were innocent.

98 PRECENT OF THEM WERE IRAQ RADICAL ISLAMISTS, the rest Saudis/Iran/Syrians.

You, have no idea...the pain, it must be to have your head cut off, but they say....once the blood pressure drops so far, your pretty much dead...but for 10-- 15 seconds.....its not good.

I bet you don't know which end of a really bad/good "assault" rifle does the work...thank God, you dont.

So if Redden/the Trib, prints your insulting post, in the name of free speech, they better damn well print mine.

This country is pissed off, and I don't think you undestand what you have done...but you will.

Re: Oregon not as cranky as it was

Oregonians, like Vladimir Putin, have a lot to be cheery about. Thankfully, George W. Bush was beaten fair and square in this last election. No one can ever take that away from Oregonians. The $600,000.00 price tag would have been worth it at twice the cost, or even a trillion dollar stimulus package price tag. Why read an 1100 page document when what really matters is rubbing the losers face in the winners’ political mandate? Never mind tired old idealistic questions like “Is this good for America”? This is what we’re doing; if you don’t like it, get out. That’s the Progressive way of bi-partisanship that got Obama the approval rating he enjoys today. Nice to see Oregonians validating 'Ws' behavior by engaging in it.

As for we Oregonians, Ted Goldschmidt isn’t going to know what hit him in this next election. John Goldschmidt is going to whoop him the same way Ted Goldschmidt beat John Goldschmidt who beat Barb Goldschmidt who beat Neil Goldschmidt. Thankfully, such a sequence easily dispels any hollow assertions of ‘status quo’ from the ever-threatening vast right wing conspiracy. A simple look at how the students at West Linn High School are bending over for a personal choice of one of the teachers tells any onlooker what Oregon is all about. Oregonians are an easy crowd to please, lucky for John Goldschmidt.

Oregonians know that Obama is at the wheel when it comes to Predator strikes in Cambodia, er uh, Pakistan and he isn’t going to use FISA to be mean to anyone (that doesn’t deserve it). Obama has facilitated Americas retaking of the moral high ground. Just ask Chavez or Ahmadinejad, we’re all friends now. It’s just like telling your kid to keep giving their lunch money to the schoolyard bully. Someday, that schoolyard bully is going to feel really, really, really bad about their behavior but it will be too late to say ‘sorry’ and they will have to live with their guilt forever. Oregonians understand this and value the innocence of a childlike approach to life in general.

Portlanders in particular enjoy the safety and comfort of knowing that bicycle assisted suicide laws protect them as they pedal their way towards saving the earth from a perilous peril that is too perilous to be periled. These innocent childlike Portlanders long to posture themselves for the type of rearing that could only come from leadership by someone with Sam Adams personal experience, values and standards. Heck, Sam Adams is the smartest guy Randi Leotard knows. Randi is behind Sam 100%. Randi doesn’t have it ‘in’ for Sam, the way so many political voyeurs wish he would.

Oregonians should be proud that our Mr. Kulongoski wouldn’t stoop to the gutter by signing any kind of statement regarding any knowledge he might have had about the scam brought on by the vast right wing conspiracy that setup Goldschmidt and Giusto. Kudos to Ted for his honesty, decency, courage, leadership and leak-proof undies, he personifies Oregon. A governor has more important things to do than dignify base assertions or make explanations to the public. It is fun to be here and watch the circus. Soon, the government will be supporting me to do nothing but that.

Because Oregonians understand that our Negroes and other disenfranchised members of society, like women, people with disabilities and the GLBT community, are going to get a type of advocacy that they would never provide for themselves, it is important to let Obama have whatever he wants so they he doesn’t feel discriminated against. Oregonians understand the abstract esoteric nuance of the Progressive Movement like no other state could ever hope to and that is why Oregon is better than the rest. Unemployment figures are as ambiguous as polling results. Progressive Oregonians know this.

Portlanders and Oregonians sent the Democrats to Washington in 06 to make things right. 165 billion for Iraq was a good start and expecting Pelosi to understand interrogation techniques is BS. Everyone knows that Nancy was lied to and could have never known it. She and Harry Reid are as good as it gets and as Hillary would say, “And we all know what I mean”. Portlanders and Oregonians have the resolve that goes with knowing whose in charge of stimulus, wiretapping, Gitmo, Cash for Clunkers, healthcare and anything else that has to do with what democrats want and that is all that matters.

What makes the true Oregonian wet with anticipation will be the return of John Goldschmidt to his rightful place as Oregons sovereign leader. That Stetson, John on his steed, the smell of leather and men enjoying themselves, true Oregonians are giddy with delight. Teachers all over Oregon are in line for gender reassignment in the hopes that they might have Johns baby. Why, just last night I dreamt that I was a tunnel and John was a mighty locomotive that came roaring up inside of me. I'm still not sure what it means.

Portlanders and Oregonians know that anyone who speaks against Obama, or democrats, is just an idiot but Sarah Palin is a cu…..and that Cheney guy, well, he's a .......

Re: Oregon not as cranky as it was

Dear "Bill Roberts" You are right I don't know statistics but a grade school drop out know that with a small sample "and we don't know the numbers from what partys they asked" and with the way tou ask a question you can sway the results to show what you want it to show.
