Ducks beat Arizona at the end

'Mr. Big Shot' Brooks strikes twice down the stretch as Oregon improves to 6-0 on the road

TUCSON, Ariz. — Harkening back to 2001-02, when Oregon broke through with clutch road wins, the 15th-ranked Ducks beat No. 10 Arizona 79-77 Sunday ion Aaron Brooks’ floating jump shot with two seconds left.

Brooks and Bryce Taylor had 21 points each for the Ducks (16-1, 4-1 Pac-10). Maarty Leunen added 14 points and 14 rebounds.

It was a back-and-forth game, with Brooks tying it at 77-77 on his 3-pointer with 1:50 left.

"Down the stretch, we put the ball in the hand of Mr. Big Shot," said Oregon guard Malik Hairston, who scored 18 points. "We call him that because he makes the big shots just like Chauncey Billups (of the Detroit Pistons)."

Brooks beat two defenders for his game-winning shot.

"I had a ball screen and I came off it and it was one-on-one after that," Brooks says. "I was in position to take the shot and it went in. Coach put a lot of trust in me."

Marcus Williams had 34 points and 12 rebounds for Arizona (13-3, 4-2).

The Ducks moved to 6-0 on the road.

Oregon plays Stanford on Thursday and California on Saturday at McArthur Court in Eugene.
