ADVERTISEMENTS
New ownership will soon take over the Portland Beavers and Portland Timbers.
The principal owner is Merritt Paulson, 34, who's the son of U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson. An announcement will be made Tuesday morning at the Multnomah Athletic Club, just before the Beavers take on Tucson at PGE Park.
Henry Paulson is also part of the team's new ownership.
Merritt Paulson is the manager of Shortstop LLC, a sports marketing company, and he recently served with NBA Entertainment as senior director of marketing and business development.
Merritt Paulson and his wife, Heather, will be moving to Portland as Paulson prepares to take over as president of the Beavers' Pacific Coast League baseball team and the Timbers' USL First Division soccer team.
The clubs had been owned by Abe Alizadeh, a Granite Bay, Calif. businessman, since 2005.

Re: New owners set to take over Beavers, Timbers
Local ownership is good.
Love the Beavers. However, I love the Timbers as well. Lets hope they treat both teams as equals instead of the Timbers being the red-headed step child like in the past.
We need to see both teams succeed, in order to justify a new turf for PGE.
