Roy sweet in win over Heat

Brandon Roy made his home national television debut an impressive one, outplaying Dwyane Wade as the Trail Blazers knocked off Miami 112-106 Thursday night.

A Rose Garden crowd announced as a sellout (19,980) and a TNT audience watched the 2006-07 NBA rookie of the year collect 25 points, five rebounds and six assists as Portland (7-12) notched its second straight win and improved to 6-3 at home.

Roy also had a hand in the victory at the defensive end, helping hold down Wade, who was 4 of 17 shooting through three quarters. The Miami star finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists but made only 9 of 26 from the field.

“I went through a rough stretch of games, but the coaches were telling me, ‘Quit thinking so much, stay aggressive, keep trying to make plays,’ “ Roy said. “But tonight was definitely a team win. That’s the only way we’re going to win games.”

The Blazers got a season-high 55 points from their reserves. Travis Outlaw contributed 20 points and seven rebounds, James Jones scored all 14 of his points on 5-of-6 shooting — 4 of 5 from 3-point range — and Sergio Rodriguez had four points and five assists in only 10 minutes.

“Our second unit was really good tonight,” Portland coach Nate McMillan said.
