Timbers draw up a 0-0 tie

Portland notches first point in Seattle since 2006; Totori scores in Waitakere win

The Seattle Sounders couldn't gain any ground on the Portland Timbers Saturday night.

The teams played to a 0-0 draw at Qwest Field in Seattle, a result that kept Portland six points in front of the defending United Soccer Leagues First Division champions.

Portland is 3-0-2 (11 points), while Seattle is 1-1-2 (five points).

The Timbers held Seattle to four shots in posting their fourth shutout.

The point for a tie was Portland's first in Seattle since a 0-0 draw on June 2, 2006 at Qwest.

Ray Burse made four saves for the Timbers, including a diving stop in the 88th minute on a shot by Seattle sub Jason Cascio.

"We were just a little off," Seattle midfielder Josh Gardner tells the Seattle Times. "We've only scored three goals all year so far. We had Portland on their heels.

"We need to do a better job of putting one of those in. We've got to find a way and find the back of the net."

Forward Chris Bagley made his first start of the season for Portland, joining Chris Brown and Takayuki Suzuki up front.

Portland managed one shot on goal.
