Feeling a need for speed, the Portland Timbers will bring back forward Bryan Jordan for Thursday’s home game against Minnesota — and possibly one or more games after that.
Jordan comes to Portland on loan from the MLS Los Angeles Galaxy. He’s a short-term answer to the loss of forward Benjamin Totori, who is expected to miss four to six weeks with a strained medial collateral ligament in his right knee.
“We need a little bit of speed up top,” Portland coach Gavin Wilkinson says. “With Totori out, we lose a bit of pace up front.
“We hope we can keep Bryan through Saturday (when the Timbers play at Vancouver). It would be great to be able to keep him the four weeks or so that Benjamin will be out.”
Wilkinson says there is a “strong possibility” that Jordan will start against Minnesota.
“He knows the boys well enough,” Wilkinson says.
Jordan recently returned from a three-game trip to France with the U.S. under-23 national squad, which is preparing for the Beijing Olympics.
