Franklin High quarterback MacIan Epley threw four of his five touchdown passes in the first half Friday afternoon to spark the Quakers over Marshall 43-8 in the season opener for both football teams at Cleveland.
Epley found running back Jacob Gardner for TD strikes of 70 and 18 yards in the first quarter.
Near the end of the period, Tyler Wingard intercepted a Marshall pass at the Minutemen 24-yard line. Eight plays later, fullback Adam Warrick plunged over from the one to give Franklin a 19-0 lead.
In the second quarter, the 6-4 Epley hooked up with 6-3 wide receiver Deshaun Bradley on touchdown plays of eight and 60 yards. The Quakers led 35-0 at halftime.
On the second-half kickoff, Tyler Sharp made a 45-yard return to the Franklin 38. With 10:09 left in the third quarter, 5-8 Marshall quarterback Jon Waters threw a perfect strike to Sharp for a 43-yard touchdown. Waters then hit wideout Casey Pietrzyk for the two-point conversion.
Epley added a 32-yard TD to Gardner in the second half.
For the game, Epley was 19 of 28 in the air for 356 yards.
All three of Gardner's catches went for touchdowns.
Bradley hauled in nine receptions for 174 yards.
