Jesuit's offense has changed to emphasize the pass, and it tore up Tualatin on Friday night.

Quarterback Scott Williams completed 11 of 13 passes for 265 yards and four touchdowns -- all in the first half -- and Keanon Lowe had six catches for 160 yards, two touchdowns and also returned a kickoff 96 yards for a score as the Crusaders won 52-20 in the prep football opener for both teams at Jesuit High School.

"They're very good. They're going to be hard on anybody," Tualatin coach Craig Hastin says. "Great team speed and that speed overpowered us, ran through us, and I would assume it will be good for them all year."

In recent years, Jesuit pounded teams with the run. On Friday, the Crusaders wore down Tualatin with the pass.

"We're switching up a little," Williams says. "It was there, so we took advantage of it."

Says Lowe: "The last couple years we had different guys. We're not as big, obviously, and everybody knows that. We want to work on our running game and everything, especially on defense."

Tualatin, a bigger team with physical backs, marched 80 yards downfield on 12 plays to go ahead on Alek Poti's 2-yard TD run.

But Lowe took the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for the score using his blazing speed.

"We knew if they were going to pound it on us, we had to come back and do something special," Lowe says. "I just tried to make a play for our team. I ran straight (after turning the corner) and our guys blocked it perfectly."

After a defensive stop, Jesuit's offense got on the field and scored the first of its six touchdowns on six consecutive possessions.

The 5-10, 165-pound Lowe, a junior, took a short pass and outran the Tualatin defense for a 60-yard touchdown and 12-7 Crusader lead.

"That was our line (blocking well), and the running back (Anthony Blake) got the safety," Lowe says. "I got the seam and used my speed."

Tualatin pounded down the field again to lead 13-12 on Poti's 1-yard run. But Jesuit responded with Williams-to-Lowe again, this time on a 44-yard post play that put the Crusaders up 18-13.

On the second play of the next possession, Williams connected with Blake, who scored on a 64-yard catch-and-run touchdown.

It looked like Tualatin was going into halftime trailing only 24-13, but Poti got called on a blatant personal foul penalty on Lowe -- he knocked the receiver down as Williams headed in the other direction trying to make a play with a few seconds left.

The penalty gave Jesuit one more play with 0:00 on the clock, and Williams hit Pat Sullivan on a 19-yard scoring play.
