Lions' defense shines in win over Pioneers

West Linn entered Friday night's game with its back-up quarterback behind center and it was playing in front of a raucous Homecoming crowd against a team that was coming off an enormous win. Needless to say, the Lions had a few things stacked against them as they took on Oregon City.

But West Linn jumped out a to a quick lead in the game and rode a vaiant effort by its defense to win 21-2. The win marked West Linn's sixth in a row in the longest continuous rivalry west of the Mississippi, matching the longest win streak by either team in the series.

West Linn took the ball on its opening possession and quickly moved into scoring range on a 47-yard pass from Logan Krellwitz to Dallen Voeller. The Lions then kept the ball on the ground and Josh Oltman eventually scored from four yards out.

Oregon City fumbled the ensuing kick-off and, four plays later, Oltman scored again, this time on a 15-yard run.

And, less than six minutes into the game, West Linn led 14-0.

Oregon City's offense struggled for the majority of the game and only had three first downs in the first half. But the Pioneers were still able to get on the board.
