ALOHA – The numbers game was the name of the game for Sunset in its 34-14 win at Aloha in both teams' Friday night Metro League opener.

First and most importantly was "one" -- Sunset left the game with one win in hand and needing just one more in its next four Metro games to secure a berth in the Class 6A state playoffs.

Next came "two" -- Sunset senior running back Alan Willes ran for two touchdowns Friday night (he threw for a third and also rushed for 64 yards on 12 carries) and his efforts helped lift the Apollos to victory Friday night.

"Our offensive line was incredible tonight -- they blew up guys almost 8 to 10 yards every single play. That was the key," Willes said. "This feels good."

"Our team just played great all night and it was good to see the defense step up," added senior defensive lineman Matt Scott, who sacked Aloha quarterback Joel Whitley three times, forced one fumble and recovered another. "This was a big game for us because this was our first Metro League game and we need two wins to get in the playoffs."

Aloha, meanwhile, was left to ponder what might have been after getting shut out in Friday's first half and turning the ball over on a fumble when it had a chance to cut the Sunset lead to a single score late in the third quarter.
