Barlow running back Malcolm Johnson breaks into the clear, while Centennial's Elijah Stoudamire gives chase during the Bruins' 46-19 win Friday night.
ADVERTISEMENTS
Barlow exploded for five touchdowns in the fourth quarter to rally past Centennial 46-19 on Friday night and stay on top in the Mount Hood Conference.
The game-changer came on the opening drive of the second half when the Eagles drained more than seven minutes off the clock, but came away empty when a field goal sailed wide right.
Barlow took possession and marched downfield on 15 straight running plays before Malcolm Johnson broke through the left side untouched for a 5-yard TD that put the Bruins in front for good 20-13.
Johnson set up the scoring chance by picking up a hard-fought first down earlier in the drive. Facing fourth-and-4, he took a toss to the outside only to have his leg swiped in the backfield by an Eagles’ linebacker. But Johnson regained his balance on the wet grass and threw himself forward to move the chains.
“I knew I was in trouble, but I just kept my feet moving,” Johnson said. “I had to pick up that first down and keep the drive moving.”
