Jesuit forces six turnovers in its Friday rout of rival Beaverton

CHEEKY — Jesuit senior Austin Cheek turns the corner on a run in the second quarter of his team's 50-6 home win over Beaverton on Friday.

BEAVERTON – Friday's game couldn't have started any better for Beaverton — or ended any worse.

The 10th-ranked Beavers, playing for the Metro League lead at No. 2 Jesuit, launched an onside kick to open its game at Jesuit High School and recovered the ball just 10 seconds into the contest.

But that's just about the last thing that went right for Beaverton all night long. Jesuit forced the Beavers into six turnovers – including four interceptions of Michael DeHaan, the state's leading Class 6A passer – ran the ball like nobody's business and ran away with a 50-6 victory.

The win gave Jesuit sole possession of first place in the Metro League at 3-0 (6-1 overall) while Beaverton fell to 2-1 (3-4 overall including two forfeits).

"It was just great. Our whole team was playing great," said junior defensive back Michael Link, who made two of his team's four interceptions against DeHaan. "We were strong. We were making plays. It was fun."

"Beaverton's a great team, but we played well and got it done," added Jesuit junior tight end/linebacker Jacob Wark, who caught a 10-yard TD pass from quarterback Scott Williams and also sacked DeHaan twice. "The defensive backs did a great job."

Beaverton, meanwhile, was left to lick its wounds, regroup and prepare for next week’s game against Sunset.
