BEAVERTON – One by one and week by week, the Jesuit football team is exorcising all its ghosts.
On Friday, the Crusaders rid themselves of the specter of last year’s first-round state playoff loss when they routed Canby -- the team that ended their 2007 campaign -- 42-14 at Jesuit High School in the quarterfinals of the Class 6A state playoffs.
Next Friday, second-ranked Jesuit gets the chance to jettison the memories of this year’s only loss when it meets No. 1 Lake Oswego in the state semifinals at PGE Park at 5 p.m. The Crusaders (10-1) lost to the Three Rivers League champion Lakers (11-0) 36-33 on Sept. 12 when LO rallied from a two-touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter at Lake Oswego High School.
“We want to get LO and get them back for earlier in the season,” said Jesuit junior lineman/linebacker Ryan McGrain. “We’ve just got to come out this next week and work hard and get after it.”
“It’s going to be great. (Lake Oswego is) an amazing team,” said Jesuit senior quarterback Scott Williams, who completed 9-of-15 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns against Canby. “It’s going to be fun to play them again.”
