ADVERTISEMENTS
No one scored, but that wasn't all bad Thursday night for the Portland Timbers.
With emergency goalkeeper Chris Seitz making six saves, the Timbers tied the Carolina RailHawks 0-0 in the home opener at PGE Park.
Seitz replaced Steve Cronin, who was injured during practice on Wednesday. Seitz is on loan from Real Salt Lake, a Major League Soccer team.
Portland improved to 0-1-1 and earned its first point of the 2009 season.
Carolina (3-0-1) will be back at PGE Park at 7 p.m. Saturday for another match with the Timbers.
RailHawks goalie Patterson Sewell made five saves on Thursday.
Since Carolina joined the United Soccer Leagues First Division in 2007, neither team has scored a goal in the all-time series between Timbers and RailHawks in matches played in Portland.
