BEVOS: Portland sets franchise record with eighth straight loss, 1-0

A two-hit performance. A franchise-record eighth straight loss.

The Portland Beavers have had better days, and years.

On Sunday afternoon, the Bevos fell 1-0 to the Omaha Royals at PGE Park.

Dusty Hughes, Yasuhiko Yabuta and Chris Hayes combined on the two-hit shutout for Omaha (51-69).

The Beavers (50-72) wasted a fourth quality start by Josh Banks (6-6), who gave up one run on five hits in seven innings, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Hughes (2-3), who pitched in the Triple-A All-Star Game at PGE Park in July, allowed two hits and three walks and struck out four over 5 1/3 innings.

Omaha scored in the sixth inning on back-to-back doubles to right field by Irving Falu and Tug Hulett.

The Beavers put men on first and second in the eighth with none out, but then came a popout, strikeout and dribbler to the mound.

The series ends at 1 p.m. Monday, with Wade LeBlanc (2-9, 4.25) on the hill for Portland against Heath Phillips (6-7, 5.41).
