Crater gave Lakeridge coach Tom Smythe a rough homecoming on Friday as the Comets racked up a 35-0 halftime lead and rolled to a 44-13 win in the Pacers' home opener.
Most of the game looked like a highlight reel for Crater. On the Comets' opening drive, quarterback Tyler Turituri handed off to Jacog Ziegler who then threw back to Turituri for a 28-yard gain. Kelley Beck then ran 22 yards on a reverse and Christian Massey hauled in a 17-yard touchdown pass on the next play.
Lakeridge was then intercepted and, three plays later, Josh Dalton took a pass from Turituri 43 yards for a score.
The Pacers moved the ball well on their next possession as a 19-yard catch by Chase Wippert and an 11-yard run by quarterback Ben Swinford moved the team into the red zone but Swinford was then picked off the end zone.
It took Crater just four plays to score again as Turituri scrambled for a 68-yard touchdown.
The hard-hitting defense of Crater kept Lakeridge off the board until its second string was in the game. The Pacers had a fumble that led to a Crater score and, with 18 seconds to play in the half, Ziegler caught a four-yard touchdown pass.
Crater moves to 2-1 on the year and take on Jefferson next week while the Pacers fall to 1-2 and will play Oregon City next.
