Clackamas was 2-1 and Lake Oswego was 0-3 heading into Friday's key Three Rivers League opener but if the Lakers' confidence was shaken, it certainly didn't show it.

Lake Oswego turned in a dominating defensive performance, flustering the Cavaliers all evening in an impressive 21-0 victory.

The Lakers were slow getting started as their first drive featured a holding penalty and a fumbled snap that Clackamas recovered. But the Laker defense kicked in, forcing a 38-yard field goal attempt that missed.

The Lakers then went 79 yards in 12 plays and quarterback Will Storey put Lake Oswego on the board with a three-yard touchdown run.

The Lakers ran for more than 200 yards as a team and Storey was efficient at quarterback, rarely throwing downfield and instead racking up much of his passing yardage by hitting Dylan Stowell on screen passes.

The Cavaliers mounted a long drive of their own late in the first half but a pair of false starts and some miscommunication on offense stalled the drive. Eventually, Lake Oswego's Grant Patton picked off a ball in the end zone and the score stayed at 7-0 at the half.

The Cavaliers opened the third quarter by fumbling on a bad snap and Lake Oswego took advantage. Storey capped a 30-yard drive with a seven-yard scoring run. On the night, Storey had 71 yards rushing and 139 yards passing.

Clackamas continued to be stagnant on offense. The team used three different quarterbacks but failed to find a groove as penalties continued to thwart them.

Late in the game, Stowell broke a 39-yard run with just over two minutes to play to seal the victory for the Lakers.

Lake Oswego will travel to Lakeridge next week while Clackamas hosts Oregon City.
