The running of Jason Gardner got the Franklin Quakers headed to a 42-21 nonleague victory over the Cleveland Warriors on Friday night at Cleveland Stadium.
Gardner's early touchdown runs of four and six yards helped Franklin open a 22-0 lead by halftime and helped open up the passing game.
Transfer quarterback Cameron Bratcher found open receivers over the middle and threw four TD passe.
Franklin improved to 2-3, while Cleveland dropped to 0-5.
Both teams will open PIL counting action in their next outings, on Oct. 16, with Cleveland traveling to Jefferson and Franklin facing Grant at Lincoln.
The Warriors drove to the Franklin one-yard line in the final minutes of the first half, but a false-start penalty cost them five yards, and they failed to score.
Cleveland came alive after intermission, though, matching Franklin's three TDs. Elijah Hauser ran four scores of four, five and four yards for the Warriors.
Bratcher connected with Dupree Stubblefield on his first two touchdown passes, which covered 12 and four yards.
In the fourth quarter, with the Quakers leading 29-7, Bratcher hit James House on fourth-and-goal from the one.
Franklin had a 36-14 lead with less than five minutes to go, when the Quakers aired it out and struck paydirt on a 35-yard, Bratcher-to-Garrett Johnson pass.
