Scots breeze past Sandy 38-8

David Douglas’ Dominique McCallister rushed for 149 yards and one touchdown and Tyler Maes tossed two second half touchdown passes as the Scots cruised to a 38-8 victory over Sandy, Friday at David Douglas High School.

The victory sets up a battle for third place in the Mount Hood Conference next week at Gresham.

“We knew what we had to do here tonight and the kids came out fired up and executed well the entire game,” David Douglas head coach Dan Wood said. “We lost to Hood River, so we didn’t want to over look Sandy at all and we didn’t.”

The Scots scored on their second possession, driving 60 yards on eight plays, culminating when Erick Reyes took a hand-off and rumbled one yard up the middle for the first score with just over three minutes left in the opening quarter.

“We wanted to move the ball around tonight and really focused on running the ball early,” Wood said. “We got a good push off our line and kind of controlled the game at the line of scrimmage.”

After holding Sandy to a four and out, the Scots Antwan Baker took a hand-off and rolled to the left side and got around the Pioneer defense and rolled 37-yards into the end zone, putting the Scots up 15 after the first quarter.

Sandy struggled to move the ball in the first half as the David Douglas defense held the Pioneers to 62 first half yards and negative 20 yards rushing.
