Scott says no decision yet on UO's Blount

Pac-10 chief awaiting word from Ducks

Pac-10 Commissioner Larry Scott said Wednesday he is waiting on word from the University of Oregon regarding the eligibility of running back LaGarrette Blount.

Blount was suspended for the season for his actions following Oregon’s 19-8 loss at Boise State in the season opener Sept. 3. Coach Chip Kelly later announced the possibility of the senior running back returning to the team as early as Saturday’s game at Stanford.

Scott had five separate meetings with UO representatives in Eugene last week – personal meetings with Blount, Kelly, Athletic Director Mike Bellotti and school president Richard Larivier and one with other university officials. UO reps will at some point make a recommendation to Scott, who has final approval rights.

“Status quo,” Scott said. “I have not yet received a request from the university.

“The ball is in the court of Chip Kelly and the university. There is no timetable, other than the agreement the school reached with LaGarrette’s request for reinstatement was that it could come no earlier than the USC game (last Saturday). If they decide to reinstate, we would have to approve it.”

Oregon officials have not indicated when they will forward their recommendation to Scott’s desk.

Scott was asked if he has formed an opinion on the Blount situation.

“Not that I will discuss,” he said. “I’ve been through my review and had my discussions with the various parties, but it’s not something I’m going to comment on in terms of details.”
