EUGENE – Catlin Gabel's girls won their fourth state cross-country title in the past seven years on Saturday.
The Eagles overcame runner-up Valley Catholic, which had the individual champion, to win the Class 3A/2A/1A meet at Lane Community College.
Catlin Gabel scored 90 points, and Valley Catholic had 101. Bandon was third with 126.
Vallet Catholic senior Austin Lundin won the 5-kilometer race in 19 minutes, 39 seconds. She was 17 seconds ahead of second-place Union freshman Katriel O'Reilly, whose team took fourth with 134 points.
Catlin had four of the top 27 finishers: Eloise Miller, a senior who came across the line in 20:51; senior Rebecca Kropp, 21:05; freshman McKenzie Spooner, 21:11; and sophomore Hannah Rotweien, 21:41. The Eagles' other scorer was Sarah Koe, who placed 50th in 22:28, one spot and six seconds ahead of Catlin Gabel sophomore Hannah Jaquiss.
Valley Catholic also earned the second-place trophy in the 3A/2A/1A boys category. The Eagles totaled 106 points, well behind champion Nyssa, which had 51, but 14 better than third-place Union.
A senior from Chemawa, Lucien Corriveau, nipped Nyssa junior Ryan Maag for first place, both timed in 16:15.
Valley Catholic had the sixth- and seventh-place finishers in juniors Andy Holstrom, 16:45, and Connor Garcia, 16:46.
