nThe Timbers are still looking to add a player on loan from Major League Soccer. “We could use a defender, and we could stand to have another forward, especially in case of injury,” General Manager Jim Taylor says. The club would like to acquire a defender in time for the back-to-back road games at Charleston, S.C., and Atlanta on June 4-5.

nThe Timbers quietly released their leading scorer of the last two seasons, McKinley Tennyson, signing Andrew Gregor, a creative central midfielder from Sunset High and the University of Portland. Tennyson hasn’t played this season because of a hip condition dating to last year. His contract wasn’t guaranteed, but Taylor says the moves were unrelated. “We’re doing OK in our player salary budget, so we had a little wiggle room to work with,” he says.

nPortland plays host to former Timber Greg Howes and the Milwaukee Wave United at 7 p.m. Saturday at PGE Park. Milwaukee (0-1-1) has to play Friday night at Seattle.
