The Peoria scene: Former Seattle farmhand Justin Leone has been playing well for the San Diego Padres, although his ticket probably will be punched for Triple-A Portland. He was hitting .400 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 13 games; he hit a game-winning grand slam against the Mariners last week. É It looks like pitcher Tim Stauffer will start the season with the Bevos. The Padres sent him to minor league camp last weekend. É Expected Beaver catcher Jason Hill, who also can play infield, was sent to minor-league camp. The Padres have another catcher, Pete LaForest, in camp and he might play for Portland, too. É The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Padres probably will send slugging first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, 23, to Triple-A. Gonzales just finished playing for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic. É“I don’t think I can get much out of Triple-A anymore,” says Gonzalez, who has spent three years at that level. “Obviously playing every day is good. But I want to get to see pitchers in the big leagues.”
