A new variant of COVID-19, known as Arcturus, could cause a surge in illnesses throughout Oregon in May and June of this year.

Another moderate surge of COVID-19 could be heading to Oregon.

In late April, Oregon Health Authority officials said a COVID subvariant known as Arcturus, or XBB 1.16, was expected to cause “an increase in infections that will peak in June.” The forecast cited data from Oregon Health and Science University economist Peter Graven’s latest report.
