Two homeless people camping under I-205 were hospitalized Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle involved in a crash on Southwest Powell Boulevard.
Police did not immediately release the names and conditions of the victims. The driver who caused the crash and struck the people fled the scene.
According to police, at 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 28, East Precinct officers were dispatched to a hit and run crash on Powell under I-205. Investigators learned that a white SUV was driving recklessly northbound on Southeast 92nd Avenue and turned eastbound on Powell.
While driving under I-205, the reckless driver rear-ended a vehicle stopped at the light. The crash launched the suspect vehicle up onto the southern sidewalk, where several houseless people had set up camp. The reckless driver then drove away, striking two of them, before fleeing in the vehicle eastbound on Powell.
The two pedestrians that were on the sidewalk were both injured. and transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The victim of the rear-end crash was not injured and followed the suspect, but lost sight of him. Witness descriptions varied from a Honda CRV to a Toyota SUV and a Chevy S10 Blazer. All reported a white vehicle. The description of the driver is unknown.
