Nitro lived a very long and happy life. He was a "plus size" dog, and nearly made it to his 15th birthday, which is almost unheard of in large breed dogs. I personally think it was because he was just such a happy boy.
We really weren't ready for another dog when he came into our life. We had recently lost our Dakota (the Rottweiler) the year before, and we had another stray dog that came into our life, Shadow. But when the neighbor lady asked about puppies, I made the mistake of looking. I will NEVER take the blame for this - technically, my husband carried the furry little troublemaker home.
As time went by, Nitro made sure he was true to his name (I had a co-worker that told me if I had named him "Fluffy", none of this would have happened). Nitro was a "bit" destructive, more than normal puppy antics, he ate all of the siding on the front of the house (I had a great phone call from my husband - come home NOW! Nitro was lucky and lived to tell about it), he was a digger, a chewer, learned how to open sliding glass doors " my personal favorite" — I'll never forget the night that the "kiddi pool" was upside and running through the yard, powered by a rambunctious Nitro underneath. I could go on and on.
If I could do it again, I certainly would, he was the best dog I've ever had, and we miss him a bunch!
Hopefully "140 lbs of goofy" has made his way over the Rainbow Bridge and is having the time of his life! Now, we just have to deal with the new puppy, Yukon, he's doing his best to fill Nitro's shoes, we'll see.
